O PAM NA GUINE-BISSAU:

The World Food Programme (WFP) carries out a range of work in Guinea-Bissau, including support for health and nutrition, school feeding and rural development. We also provide technical assistance to the Government to help the country reduce undernutrition, increase access to education and improve food security monitoring.

OBJECTIVE OF THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

The objective of the female internship program is to increase equality between men and women in the labor market, to address the large gender disparity in the organization in general and the high unemployment rate in the country, especially among young graduates. In addition, the internship program will allow WFP to train future qualified talent in relevant areas, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals No. 5 and 8: Gender Equality, Decent Work and Economic Growth.

With this opportunity, students or recent graduates will be able to develop skills and receive guidance that will give them a competitive edge for future employment opportunities, growth and support in the humanitarian sector.

PURPOSE OF THE WORK

Due to the increasing monitoring demands that do not match the current monitoring staffing levels, the Task Force is overburdened in executing its core mandate of monitoring programme performance, evidence generation, compliance, knowledge management, capacity building and technical support, among others. Once onboarded, the intern will undergo WFP staff mentoring. The intern will also have 1) an excellent opportunity to gain practical work experience; 2) access to a wide range of online in-house training courses; and 3) a regional network and access to a wide range of operational examples in the field, in addition to specific monitoring training, in order to function optimally.

SUPERVISION

Under the direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation unit manager, the candidate will be closely monitored and guided by the WFP Programme Chief.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INTERNSHIP PROJECT(S) /TASKS TO BE PERFORMED

  • Support the data collection and reporting process in the field of school canteens, health centers and market monitoring, including editing.
  • Support the strengthening of the knowledge management agenda within the monitoring team, ensuring that all knowledge and other information products, from NFRs, reports, bulletins, work plans, EMS plan concept notes, are properly archived and that the path/link is shared for access.
  • Organize monthly follow-up calls, including setting dates, sending invitations, recording sessions, and writing NFRs.
  • Perform other related tasks and duties as instructed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education:

At the time of application, candidates must be in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, be enrolled in a master’s degree or have completed their studies in the last 12 months, Business Administration, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Sociology, Geography, Agronomy, Nutrition, Health and other relevant areas.

Languages :

  • Fluency (level C) in Portuguese (language of the country of work)
  • Intermediate level (level B) of French or English is an advantage
  • Knowledge of local languages ​​is an advantage

Experience:

  • No previous experience is required

General knowledge and skills:

  • Knowledge of computer applications for collecting, managing and disseminating information.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge and experience in using quantitative analysis techniques, interpretation and software including SPSS and Stata.
  • Experience using ArcGIS and GPS will be advantageous;
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • High numerical capacity, with an innate ability to quickly analyze and interpret data and recommend improvements.
  • Flexibility and ability to work to deadlines in sometimes stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team as appropriate.
  • Availability and willingness to travel, if necessary, to different areas of Guinea-Bissau.
  • Problem-solving ability.
