DRC is looking for Protection Officer (Legal) who will provide displacement-affected communities with legal awareness sessions and legal counselling services on a variety of topics (including legal and civil documentation, labour rights and Housing Land and Property) . This will be complemented by ADR (alternative dispute resolution). The Protection Officer (Legal) should be a practicing licensed lawyer in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan regular courts and registered with the Jordanian Bar Association.

About the job

The individual will report directly to the Project Manager. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

    • Support continuous legal analysis for the operational area to inform legal needs specific to prioritized protection risks, identify changes in legal and policy framework, and identify opportunities for future engagement
    • Delivers updated legal awareness sessions to Clients from refugee and host communities, provide legal consultations for clients, especially in hard-to-reach areas, to ensure wide accessibility of legal support.
    • Provides accurate and timely legal counselling sessions to Clients on a variety of legal topics, including civil documentation, and labor law.
    • Conducts regular case follow-ups and facilitates relevant referrals to specialized services providers where legal representation is required.
    • Supports the teams in identifying protection and legal programming needs in the areas of operation
    • Supports the Protection Area Manager and Team leader in drafting reports.
    • Support the Protection CO team on updating and drafting legal topics as needed.
    • Collaborates and coordinates with partners and legal aid providers.
    • Works with the MEAL team and Protection Technical Unit to ensure legal activities are of high quality
    • Attend working group and workshops based on the need and the request of line manager.
    • Provide reports based on the request of line manager.
    • Any other activities, as requested by the line manager and CO Technical team.

About you

Required

    • At least 3-4 years of experience in Protection work in international organizations and humanitarian settings, specifically including the provision of legal assistance and counseling;
    • Previous experience in providing legal counselling or legal representation services in line with the Jordanian laws and regulations.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of beneficiaries at all times;
    • Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility.
    • Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible and able to handle pressure well.
    • Flexibility in working overtime when needed;
    • Previous experience in working with Syrian refugees in Jordan
    • Bachelor/ Degree in Law or other related field.
    • Registration with the Jordanian Bar Association as a practicing lawyer
