JOB DETAIL

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

The Engineering Department (EN) pushes back the limits of technology so that physicists can carry out their research. Within the Electrical Engineering (EL) group of the EN department, you will join the Maintenance and Operation (MO) section, which is in charge for the maintenance and operation of CERN electrical transmission and distribution network.

Are you a qualified and proactive electrical equipment expert, specialized in maintenance/operation of electrical networks? Take part!

Functions

As an electrical equipment expert in the Maintenance and Operation section, you will be responsible for the life-cycle management of low voltage equipment. Additionally, you will maintain and operate a portion of CERN’s high and low voltage electrical network.

As the equipment manager for low voltage switchboards, you will:

  • Manage the supply contract (e.g., regular follow-up with service providers, after-sales service, warranty, etc.).
  • Carry out the necessary procurement actions (e.g., specific orders or framework contracts).
  • Draw up technical specifications and tendering documents for the maintenance contract.
  • Define the equipment and asset management strategy in CERN’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including the maintenance strategy and a spare parts policy.
  • Provide the necessary expertise required for corrective or preventive maintenance, or in the event of failure analysis.
  • Organize equipment drawings and as-built documentation.
  • Develop consolidation proposals to ensure the ongoing reliability and availability of equipment.
  • Participate in project planning and execution, providing technical inputs and support.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in equipment and technologies.

You will also play a role in maintaining and operating a portion of CERN’s electrical network. In this context, you will:

  • Operate the high and low voltage network (lockouts, switch off/on of electrical equipment, reconfiguration).
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs, document them, and lead/contribute to the preparation of reports.
  • Supervise preventive or corrective maintenance activities.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance and operational activities, including work performed, issues encountered, and corrective actions taken.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of electrical engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • Proven knowledge of electrical equipment associated with low and high voltage electrical networks (knowledge of low voltage switchboards and high voltage electrical transformers is considered an asset).
  • Proven experience in contract management.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Proven experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical equipment composing high and low voltage electrical networks, including troubleshooting and repairs.

Technical competencies:

  • Drafting of commercial documents for a supply or a service contract.
  • Contract management: and follow-up of technical and financial aspects of a contract.
  • Operation and maintenance of electrical circuits and networks.
  • Organisation, planning and control: including supervision of works.
