Background Information –

The UNOPS Hub in Amman implements projects on behalf of UN agencies and bilateral donors and in close coordination with the Government and national authorities. With an established presence across the region, the office runs operations including large-scale procurement, project development and technical management, and provides financial, human resources and infrastructure-related services.

The functional objective of UNOPS Hub in Amman is to deliver its projects in an efficient and effective manner and in line with the principles, rules and regulations of UNOPS, to achieve the outcomes sought by the clients.

The incumbent is responsible to abide by security policies, administrative instructions, plans and procedures of the UN Security Management System and that of UNOPS.

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Electrical Engineer is required to perform tasks that are relevant to part or all of the following list of duties and responsibilities ensuring their effectiveness, transparency and integrity:

  • Liaise with the design consultant and contribute to the design phase to achieve the stakeholders requirements.
  • Support in preparation of engineering studies relevant to electrical engineering discipline. Services may include reviewing and commenting on preliminary plans and cost estimates, conducting field visits, drafting reports, surveying, bid assistance, construction supervision and inspection, and project management to facilitate review and approval processes, in addition to providing a detailed estimate of cost for the work.
  • Provide technical support throughout all stages of designing processes by executing a variety of technical design transactions, preparing materials/ documentation, and complying with UNOPS processes and procedures.
  • Assist in conducting research , feasibility studies and needs assessment activities to identify and select beneficiaries of the project;
  • Support the project team in Preparing the design briefs, design reports comprehensive design documentation, calculations, drawings, specifications, schedules and other project documents of PV solar/ electrical engineering systems for projects utilizing research, development, relevant international standards and codes and good engineering practices and according to the client’s design requirements;
  • Support the project team in Reviewing electrical and solar systems designs for Infrastructure projects in terms of accuracy, suitability to overall design requirements, including identifying improvements in the designs and participate in proposing practical solutions;
  • Carry out research and identify appropriate technologies/techniques/designs that can be incorporated in the project design;
  • Contribute to tenders evaluation and support the PM and procurement unit to identify project needs

Project Supervising:

  • Support the project team in the Coordination and supervision of electrical installation services of projects.
  • Conduct site visits to assess and identify rehabilitation needs and requirements for all buildings and departments of the targeted hospital, and for all works and aspects such as electrical works and equipment…etc.
  • Conduct a visual inspection to identify existing systems.
  • Support the PM in conducting QA/QC relevant activities Protecting the confidentiality of work.
  • Following up the implementation of Electrical/solar works on the site.
  • Contribute to monitoring and following up on the implementation of works including quality, quantity, and time.
  • Check and approve the executed works submitted by the contractor’s requests and as-built drawings.
  • Report and recommend remedial actions regarding potential delays and/or cost overruns to the Project Manager.
  • Provide the Project Manager and Project team with all information to execute the project in a timely manner and within the budget allocated;
  • Provide supervision of the project work progress and quality for on-time project delivery.
  • Monitor and measure the works progress through the agreed Bill of Quantities (BoQ) as per the contract.
  • Any other duty related to the field of work.Support in supervising the testing and commissioning activities related to electrical/solar energy systems.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • License/Board Certification in Electrical Engineering is desirable.
  • Advanced Degree (Master’s) or equivalent in electrical Engineering or related fields is a plus and may substitute some of the required years of experience.

Experience

  • At least 3 (three) years in Building rehabilitation, Power system, PV system and low current systems
  • At least 1 (one) year of working experience in project assessment, surveying and design in rehabilitation projects and construction projects is required.
  • Experience in computer design software, particularly “AutoCAD” (latest Version) or equivalent is required.
  • Work Experience with an international organization and/or UN Agencies is an asset.
  • High proficiency with computers, and other software/ platforms related to the position’s field of expertise. Good experience in working with the G-Suite platform including, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides is desired.

Language

  • Fluency in English is highly desired, intermediate English is required.
  • Arabic language is required

Terms and Conditions

  • For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS.
