Result of Service
To co-ordinate the scale up and connection between the work around nature positive universities and green skilling, as well as sport. The assignment will have a specific focus on two key projects which would be Green Jobs for Youth Pact and Sport for Nature.

Duties and Responsibilities
Organizational Setting: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. UNEP’s Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and capacity development for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The Education, Youth and Advocacy Unit oversees the education outreach and a series of youth projects for UNEP at its headquarters in Nairobi. This includes everything from engaging Universities through the Youth and Education Alliance to engaging with partners in the gaming industry and youth movements. The consultant will provide 5 key deliverables as indicated under outputs for UNEP / Ecosystems Division, Youth, Education & Advocacy Unit and the incumbent will report to the Chief, Youth, Education and Advocacy Unit. 4.1 Tasks and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Chief, Youth, Education & Advocacy Unit, the part-time consultant’s duties will include: 1. Improve the provision of green education and skills through the Nature Positive Universities Network by upskilling students: • Based on the existing Student Ambassadors network in NPU, explore the possibility for students to be upskilled in conservation/restoration to support in the achievement of GBF targets and support universities in their nature journey.  List of 50 students to work on this (across 5 regions and at least 50% from ODA countries)  Workshop green jobs/skills with students in UK/India/Kenya • Leverage NPU’s network of universities to support green skills agenda and report back to Accelerator/Green Jobs for Youth Pact  Create green jobs hub on NPU website, in support of GBF  Connect with THE/SOS to get support on education pledging under the Green Jobs for Youth Pact in delivering more green skills. 2. Work with sports organisations in reducing their impact on nature through the NPU/Student Ambassadors program: • Based on existing NPU resources/toolkits and in collaboration with networks of universities focusing on sports (e.g FISU network and Sports Ecology Group), identify the opportunity for universities to serve as local nature hubs for sports:  Sportify existing resources to guide sports organisations in their nature journey and support in the achievement of the GBF targets;  implement resources through concrete on the ground laboratory with universities – focus on supply chain guidance / pilot with 5;  Identify 10 students to support their local sports organisations in their nature journey, implementing existing guidance.
Qualifications/special skills
Master’s degree in communications, international relations, political science, sustainable development, environmental science or related field required. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience required in the field of higher education or sustainability field is required Project management: Able to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively is desirable. Innovation: Ability to think creatively about how to evolve pre-existing programmes to have maximum impact is desirable. Communications: Able to bring a diverse group of individuals and partners together act on a common agenda and able to write high quality texts and proposals as required is desirable. Project design: A strong track record of designing projects that secure buy-in and generate results is desirable. Writing: Strong writer of stories and proposals that support the work is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required.
