PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT:

This role is being established to increase the capacity of the Audience and Market Insights (AMI) unit to provide reporting, prepare supporting documentation, and develop research summaries for an increasing number of markets and new projects. Six main areas have been identified:
1. Corporate Sector Analyst Trends: Lead an audit of analyst reports from leading credible firms across the world in English, relating to 5 corporate sectors [sectors to be confirmed] from the past 12 months.
2. Media Analysis: Liaise with media analytics agency to refine the media analysis of coverage in English across the world over the past 12 months, focusing on the 5 corporate sectors selected for analysis.
3. Creation of Corporate Trends Reports: Compile data from the media analysis and corporate sector analyst trends to create 5 corporate trends reports.
4. In-House Media Impact Analysis: Lead analysis using UNICEF’s TalkWalker seats to measure the impact of corporate brands’ partnership with UNICEF on media and social media. This includes analyzing 10-15 partnerships according to the existing measurement framework, following a pre-existing template of 4-5 slides per report [partners to be confirmed].
5. High-Value Audience Research: Support the understanding and engagement of high-value, hard-to-reach audiences by producing 5 to 7 thematic secondary research reports. This includes conducting an audit and analysis of existing content, reports, and opinions from the past 3 years, in English, but from sources across the virtual world. Each report is estimated to be 20-30 slides.
6. High-Value Partner Qualitative Research Support: Provide support in scheduling, note-taking, and analyzing up to 20 one-hour qualitative interviews with existing UNICEF partners. 2 to 3 PPT reports, each 15-25 slides, are expected as a result.
7. Media Polarization Framework Development Pilot: Support the development of a framework for NatComs that enables data-driven diagnosis of media polarization and the potential risks of entering sensitive conversations by measuring media conversations in near real-time.

How can you make a difference?

SCOPE OF WORK:

Working under the supervision of the Market Research Manager, the Market Research Consultant will be responsible for:

  1. Working with the vendor identified for media analysis to produce the secondary research reports described above, and supporting the Market Research Manager in their presentations to markets, both globally and regionally.
  2. Using the Talkwalker tool to produce the corporate partnership measurement reports described above, keeping track of data usage, and identifying opportunities across UNICEF to leverage the tool more effectively when relevant. Troubleshooting with the Talkwalker helpdesk when necessary.
  3. Supporting the Market Research Manager in analysis and presentation creation relating to the areas described above. High-quality analysis and an engaging insights narrative are expected to resonate with a diverse group of stakeholders who may be familiar with this type of information.
  4. Assisting the Market Research Manager in workshops and sessions related to the areas identified above.
  5. Supporting AMI in leveraging the information gathered from the areas described above.

WORK ASSIGNMENTS OVERVIEW:

DELIVERABLES:

Deliverable 1 by: 30 April 2025

Lead an audit of analyst reports from credible global firms (in English) over the past 12 months, covering 5 corporate sectors [to be confirmed].  Liaise with a media analytics agency to refine the media analysis of global coverage (in English) over the past 12 months related to the selected sectors.

KPIs: 1) Developed 5 PPT reports, 1 for each identified sector. 2) Reports should be narrative- led to engage audiences that are not data literate.

Deliverable 2 by: 31 October 2025

Lead in-house analysis using UNICEF’s Talkwalker platform to measure the impact of corporate brand partnerships with UNICEF across media and social media.

KPIs: 1) Analyze and measure 10-15 partnerships according to the existing measurement framework, following a pre-existing template (4-5 slides per report) [partners to be confirmed]. 2) Present findings to relevant stakeholders across UNICEF, estimating 3 presentations per partnership (approximately 30 presentations total).

Deliverable 3 by: 31 October 2025

Conduct an audit and analysis of existing content, reports, and opinions from secondary research sources related to 5 to 7 themes relevant to UNICEF [to be confirmed]. The analysis will cover content from the past 3 years, in English only, but sourced globally.

KPIs: 1) Develop narrative-driven reports that engage non-data-literate audiences. 2) Deliver 5-7 reports, each estimated to be 20-30 slides.

Deliverable 4 by: 31 July 2025

Provide support in scheduling, note-taking, and analyzing up to 20 one-hour qualitative interviews with existing UNICEF partners.

KPIs: 1) Attend up to 20 interviews and take thorough notes. 2) Develop a summary memo for each interview, highlighting key points. 3) Assist in the creation of 2-3 PPT reports, each 15-25 slides long.

Deliverable 5 by: 31 October 2025

Support the development of a framework for Natcoms that enables a data-driven diagnosis of polarization and the potential risk of engaging in sensitive conversations by measuring media discussions in near-real time.

TRAVEL:

There is a possibility of travel to Geneva for one week, which will be covered separately by UNICEF.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • A first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or higher), in cultural studies, communications, media studies, marketing, political studies, fundraising, or development studies.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional work experience in secondary research, including media analysis and analytics.
  • Prior experience in using media aggregators, including the tool Talkwalker is required.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and turning data into insights is required.
  • Strong command of secondary research methodologies is required.
  • Experience and fluency with Boolean search terms is required.
  • Experience in setting up measurement frameworks is required.
  • Experience in desk research and literature reviews is required.
  • Experience in the area of partnerships, fundraising and sponsorship is desirable.
  • Experience working in an international environment is desirable.

Language:

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.
