JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
On 29 May 1948, the United Nations Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1948) called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine and established the first peacekeeping mission headed by a UN Mediator with the assistance of a group of military observers to be known as the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO’s mandate covers five countries, including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. This position is located in the Security Section at UNTSO Headquarters, Jerusalem. The Field Security Assistant at the GS-3 level reports to the Guard Force Supervisor under the overall supervision of the Chief Security Officer / Deputy Chief Security Officer.
Responsibilities
Under the overall direction of the Chief Security Officer, the direct supervision of the Guard Force Supervisor and within the limits of delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: • Screens all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the UN compound to ensure authorized access. • Provides continuous coverage of cameras, telephone and radio communications systems. • In the event of emergencies and incidents, alerts relevant units and under the direct supervision of the Team Leader or Guard Force Supervisor, responds to the location of the incident. • Maintains logs and initiates chronological logs of events during emergency situations. • Provides information and directions to all persons associated with the organization. • Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic. • Alerts for any potential or actual breaches of security and any disturbances or unusual activity and reports these immediately. • Ensures that all UN property being carried from the complex is checked for appropriate documentation. • Performs shift duties (to include afternoons, mornings and nights), and any other duties as may be required and so assigned by the Chief Security Officer or his designated official.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent technical or vocational certificate is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A valid driver’s license in Israel and West Bank is required (attach a copy of your license). Ability to drive manual shift vehicles is desirable. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) is required. Knowledge and understanding of Guard Force processes is desirable.
Work Experience
A minimum of two (02) years of progressively responsible experience in the military, police, a local or international security organization, or other security functions is required. Experience in information management with a military, police, or international security organization is desirable. A minimum of one (1) year experience in access control procedures is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in the local languages Arabic and/or Hebrew is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
