Location:                     Port au Prince, Haiti

Salary Grade:               AAH 09

Contract duration:       12 months [with possibility of extension]  

Action Against Hunger Haiti is part of the international Action Against Hunger network, which provides humanitarian assistance in more than 40 countries around the world in the sectors of nutrition, health, protection, water/sanitation and food security. Action Against Hunger prioritizes its areas of intervention based on factors such as security levels, food and nutrition security assessments, and the presence and capacity of other actors on the ground

Action Against Hunger USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network. As an independent NGO, Action Against Hunger USA currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia and Haiti.

Action Against Hunger currently operates in the provinces of North West, North East, Artibonite, South and Grande Anse. Action Against Hunger will resume its programs in the capital, Port au Prince. Known for its global expertise in Nutrition, Action Against Hunger is looking to strengthen its programming in this area. This is why Action Against Hunger is currently looking for a Head of Nutrition and Health.

I.  Job Summary

The Head of Nutrition and Health will be responsible for defining Action Against Hunger’s health and nutrition strategies and providing leadership and guidance to health and nutrition teams to implement Action Against Hunger’s strategies in Haiti. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the quality of Nutrition interventions, internal and external coordination at the national level while providing support to teams to ensure smooth implementation of Action Against Hunger’s health and nutrition activities.

The Head of Nutrition and Health will work closely with members of the Health and Nutrition team, program managers, WASH and Protection technical advisors, as well as international and local partners to ensure coordination, collaboration, integration and quality of health and nutrition activities.

II. Essential Job Duties

Under the supervision of the Program Director, your mission will be to define strategies and coordinate Action Against Hunger’s interventions in the field of health and nutrition.

a.       Coordinate and provide expertise in Nutrition and Health:

· Design, capitalize on and evaluate nutritional and health interventions as well as advocacy actions in your sector.

·  Assess and analyze the nutritional context of the country.

·  Collect and analyze nutritional data from other partners (NGOs, UN agencies, government structureto decide on the launch of surveys.

·  Monitor and coordinate programs in the areas of nutrition and health.

·  Supervise or conduct rapid assessments and nutritional surveys.

·  Control, validate and monitor the consumption of your programs to establish orders and carry out quality control.

·  Manage the Nutrition Health team in the capital and be the functional manager of the Nutrition Health Program Managers on the bases.

·  Develop and lead programs and advocacy in partnership with national and local stakeholders.

Represent Action Against Hunger and promote its positions in the field of health and nutrition

b. Monitor and coordinate health and nutrition programs:

· Initiate nutrition assessments in liaison with the Deputy Country Program Director and health and nutrition teams.

·  Develop multisectoral projects and activities.

·  Collect and analyze data regularly and develop recommendations.

·  Monitor the quality of activities implemented and provide advice to health and nutrition teams.

c.  Represent Action Against Hunger and its positioning in the field of Health and Nutrition

· Represent Action Against Hunger to national and international authorities in matters of health and nutrition.

·  Raise awareness among national and international authorities of the position and protocols of Action Against Hunger.

·  Participate in the Nutrition Cluster and represent Action Against Hunger in the appropriate humanitarian coordination bodies.

· Strengthen the advocacy of Action Against Hunger and NGOs on nutrition issues in Haiti.

III. Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit for long periods and to concentrate on work, including typing, and turn out heavy volumes of work accurately, within short time frames under stressful situations in the context of a moderately noisy office with interruptions.

To travel to the field, the employee must attest to a level of physical fitness capable of enduring physically difficult, highly stressful situations which may include the necessity to walk long distances, to eat a limited diet and/or to reside in potentially uncomfortable housing or tents.

IV. Working Conditions, Travel and Environment

The duties of the job require regular job attendance at least five days per week. Must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends as required by contact with the missions, mission security, or other obligations.

Must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business travel as well as to the missions if appropriate. While visiting the field, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well is to infectious diseases.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

You hold a university degree in medicine, nursing, or another relevant medical or paramedical specialty, and you have a minimum of five years’ experience in development project management or humanitarian action, in complex environments.

Required Skills & Experience

· You have proven experience in the coordination and technical supervision of multicultural teams on multisector projects, as well as in program budget management.

· You have strong project proposal writing and leadership skills, particularly in complex contexts.

· You have excellent communication skills in French, both written and oral, and know how to manage stress while demonstrating emotional intelligence.

·  Experience in the country or region is an asset, as are your skills in remote monitoring.

·  A good level of English, both written and spoken, is required for this position.

·  A good sense of humor.
