JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description

Your responsibilities

You are an Electrical Engineer interested to join CERN’s Machine Protection (TEMPgroup and to contribute, within the scope of the HLLHC Magnet Circuit Forum and the HLLHC Inner Triplet (IString team, to the definition, simulation, design, and documentation of the superconducting circuits of the High Luminosity Upgrade project (HLLHand the HLLHC IT String? Become part of the Operations team of the HLLHC IT String.

The main tasks will include, among others:

  • Global optimization of the HLLHC circuits having in mind performance, operation, and cost, considering the number of circuits and the different powering and protection configurations to be implemented within the LHC and HLLHC constraints.
  • Organization of technical and global reviews and meetings on aspects of the design of the different systems related to interfaces and having an impact on the overall, operational performance and costs.
  • Investigation on the various solutions considering aspects in the domain of Accelerator Physics and Performance, Superconducting Magnets Design, ColdWarm Powering, Machine Protection, Cryogenics, Integration and Installation issues.
  • Preparation of the strategies and related documents pertaining to the definition and verification of circuit instrumentation as well as magnet and circuit polarities.
  • Verification of the implementation of the magnet circuits in the HLLHC IT String with an emphasis on the instrumentation, circuit polarities and the required tests namely the electrical quality assurance tests.
  • As a part of the HLLHC IT String team, contribution to the operation of the facility ensuring that the associated test program is executed according to the defined schedule. This will be done while guaranteeing that the tests and the status are communicated to the different stakeholders.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matterfundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
