Department(
The Employment Policy, Job Creation and Livelihoods Department (EMPLOYMENis responsible for promoting full and productive employment by developing integrated employment, development and skills policies that maximize the employment impact of economic growth, investment, and development and which are inclusive, gender sensitive, productive and sustainable. The Employment Analysis and Economic Policies (EMP/ANALYSIunit of the ILO oversees and promotes multicountry, multidisciplinary and intersectoral policy analysis related to key issues and themes of relevance to decent work and policy cohesion between economic and employment policies to drive inclusive growth. The unit is involved in research and labour market analysis in keeping with ILO global, regional and national priorities set out in the Centenary Declaration on the Future of Work, the Global Call to Action for a HumanCentred Recovery that is inclusive, sustainable and resilient and as laid out in the Followup to the Resolution concerning the Third Recurrent Discussion on Employment (GB.346/INS/3/1). It provides analyses of employment and labour market trends, including for youth and women, macroeconomic and sectoral policies for job creation and productive economic transformation, and future of work drivers in the context of comprehensive employment policy frameworks.
Learning areas
The intern will support the EMP/ANALYSIS unit. Depending on the period engaged, s/he will carry out research in targeted areas within the scope of macroeconomics, labour market and social issues and policies and contribute to the unit’s production of internal briefs, external reports and publications.
As an ILO intern in RESA, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas such as
production of briefs, reports, blogs and webinars on aspects of labour market impacts/linkages to employment policies and economic policies; preparing labour market diagnostics; identifying and sharing good practices in genderresponsive macroeconomic and sectoral policy frameworks; provision of technical assistance to countries in areas of evidencesupported employment policy design and implementation; and production of the ILO major publication, the Global Employment Trends for Youth.
You would be gaining experience in working with specialists who are involved in the following tasks:
- Compile national and regional economic and labour market statistics from official national and international sources;
- Undertake background research on various economic and decent workrelated topics, for example inequality, productivity and wages, migration, informality, and employment and social trends;
- Draft studies or sections of studies as contribution to the production of ILO reports and publications, including on issues relating to future of work and the humancentred recovery;
- Contribute to the preparation and planning of ILO meetings and workshops involving tripartite constituents;
- Support other related work of RESA as needed.
Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Selection process:
Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HR, hiring departments will shortlist applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected by any department for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster.
If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the hiring department for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, email, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.
Stipend/Financial compensations:
As an intern in Geneva, you will receive a stipend of 2450 CHF per month from the ILO, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundatio. If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive 2450 CHF per month. Your travel to Geneva will be at your own expense. In addition to the amounts referred above, each intern shall receive the amount of CHF45 per month, or the equivalent amount in the currency in which the monthly stipend is paid, which is a contribution from the Office towards the cost of medical insurance to cover the period of the internship.
Qualified candidates from nonand underrepresented countries may be eligible for a special fund that provides financial assistance for roundtrip airfare (economy clasin addition to the stipend.
