Duties and Responsibilities
The duration of the internship is for a minimum period of four (4) months up to six (6) months. This internship is UNPAID in person and fulltime (35 hours per wee, on the United Nations premise working arrangement from (New York, US. This internship is designed to be fulltime and inperson but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to parttime (20 hours per weeand/or remote. Org. Setting and Reporting The Department of Peace Operations (DPprovides political and executive direction to United Nations peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates. The Department works to integrate the efforts of United Nations, governmental and nongovernmental entities in the context of peace operations. This position is located in the DPO Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLS, Justice and Corrections Service (JC. JCS serves as a center of expertise on justice, corrections and related rule of law areas within the United Nations Secretariat and supports the work of justice and corrections components in United Nations peace operations and other United Nations entities. It assists host countries to deliver essential justice and prison services, strengthen criminal justice systems, and facilitate rule of law reforms. Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the Intern will be responsible for:Assisting the Justice and Corrections Service (JCwith strategic communication and public outreach related to rule of law/security institutions/justice and corrections in peacekeeping;Assisting in developing and designing communications and multimedia products for web and social networking platforms;Assisting in developing content of JCS stories and information to increase awareness and understanding justice and corrections issues;Assisting with drafting and editing of JCS publications (e.g. fact sheets, brochures, newsletters and donorrelated updatefor internal and external purposes;Conceptualizing and creating data visualizations and interactive content utilizing design and other software;Researching, compiling, and drafting information for use in the preparation and production of social media content;Monitoring and analyzing statistics related to social media content and web analyticsbased platforms (Talkwalker, Twitter Analytics, Facebook Insight.Performing any other duties as requested by the supervisor. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or highe; (be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalen; or (have graduated with a university degree (as defined abovand, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalen, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
