The WB Finance & Accounting (WFVice Presidency is responsible for all aspects of the financial reporting and internal control framework for IBRD and IDA, and the extensive Trust Fund/Partnership portfolio of WB entities. It supports an appropriate fiduciary control framework and administering disbursements for Bank lending and leads the client service function for the WB’s corporate expenses.   WFA mandate also supports both internal and external clients while we focus on delivery, optimization, impact, and people & culture.
 
Organizationally, WFA is comprised of three departments: (1) Corporate Accounting & reporting, (2) Trust funds and Loans (3) Financial Operations.
 
WFA’s Payroll, Accounts Receivable, and Tax Division (WFAP, part of the Financial Operations Department, is responsible for recording and reporting the World Bank ’s administrative expenses, such as payroll, accounts receivable, and tax allowance. WFAPT also provides strategic leadership and guidance to business units across the World Bank on developing and maintaining an effective system of an effective system of internal controls over processing and reporting administrative expenses.  The team is located in Washington DC and Chennai.
 
WFAPT is currently seeking an Accounting Analyst for its team in Washington, DC.

How your contributions will help us achieve our goals:

The Accounting Analyst plays a significant role in undertaking the Payroll and Accounts Receivable activities for the WB. You will collaborate with the Payroll and Accounts Receivable team in Chennai to jointly deliver the work program activities of the functions.  You will play a key role in administering WBG policies concerning payroll, accounts receivable and related revenues, which includes timely and accurate reporting of transactions and balances.  You will also perform a variety of broad responsibilities of the division, including analyzing a diverse and dynamic range of issues and designing and implementing business process and system improvements. 
 
As an Accounting Analyst, you will report to the Division Manager.
 
What you will do:
 
Technical leadership, reporting, and control environment:
 
•  Coordinate and undertake accounting processes in the Payroll and Accounts Receivable areas 
•  Undertake internal control activities for Payroll and Accounts Receivable, including the annual Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFreview
•  Play a key role in engaging with stakeholders on accounting policies, financial reporting, internal control, and business matters
•  Manage timely and accurate completion of periodic trial balances and yearend activities
•  Provide data analysis and reporting
•  Partner with the Payroll and Accounts Receivable teams in Chennai on the execution of work program activities 
•  Participate in Business Continuity Plan procedures  
•  Lead and participate in divisional and departmental projects and activities
•  Participate in internal and external audits and provide support for compliance attestations and other assessments
 
Transformation, Project management and Stakeholder collaboration:
 
•  Contribute to transformation of accounts receivable function and ERP implementation 
•  Manage deliverables for projects and system improvements implementation
•  Collaborate effectively with key stakeholders within the organization– Human Resources (H, Treasury, Information & Technology Solutions (IT, Budget, Performance Review and Strategic Planning (BP, Operational units, and WB staff
•  Identify opportunities to continuously improve and provide innovative solutions.

 

Selection Criteria

 

What you will bring:
 
Education and Experience:
 
•  Professional accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA /CPA or equivalen
•  Bachelor’s in Finance, Accounting, or other relevant discipline with minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience
•  Experience with a financial institution or a Big 4 accounting firm is a plus
•  Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or other relevant discipline is a plus
 
Knowledge and Skills:
 
•  Fundamental Controllership Knowledge: Understanding of general accounting principles, financial concepts and transaction processes 
•  Business Processes: Understanding of business processes and systems (preferably PeopleSoft and/or SAto undertake the analysis, enhance internal controls, and implement changes
•  Accounting Policy: Solid understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAor International Financial Reporting Standards (IFR. Ability to operationalize policies into procedures and processes  
•  Risk Management & Internal Controls: Solid knowledge of internal controls and procedures related to financial operations, such as payroll and accounts receivable.  Ability to identify risks and control issues and propose risk mitigation
•  Project Management: Understanding of the project management concepts related to implementation of complex, multifunctional projects
•  Client Orientation: Understanding of how to translates insight into practice.  Experience in providing innovative solutions
•  Drive for Results: Track record of successful implementation and delivery of programs and projects that show stakeholder understanding 
•  Collaboration and Inclusion: Fostering team climate of practical and innovative action and collaboration
