DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Gender Coordinator URRI.
The overall purpose of the role:
The Gender Coordinator is part of the DRC led consortium’s URRI Programme Coordination Unit and will strengthen gender across the URRI project in the six districts of Terego, MadiOkollo, Yumbe, Koboko, Obangi and Moyo.
The objective of the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRprogramme is to enhance climate resilience for women, men and youth in refugee and host communities and promote inclusive, cohesive and environmentally sustainable development in refugee affected areas aligned with local priorities.
The Gender Coordinator will lead the rollout of the Gender Action and Learning – GALS methodology and gender mainstreaming across programming and provide guidance to implementing developed gender actions and recommendations.The Gender Coordinator will also lead in the gender assessment and integrate the recommendations into the URRI programme life cycle including, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
Technical support and quality assurance
- Maintain uptodate knowledge and understanding of gender and inclusion issues particularly as relates to climate and environment and highlight actionable and relevant adaptations for project implementation.
- Provide gender technical support for URRI consortia partner staff and other key stakeholders.
- Provide analysis and advice to the program team on key gender issues and opportunities to support women’s engagement and participation.
- Support URRI project design and programme adaptation ensuring a strong gender lens.
- Support documentation and replication of good practices across URRI and support the development of communication materials on the same.
- Support the implementation of the Gender Action Learning System – GALS Methodology
Monitoring and Evaluation
- Lead the gender assessment.
- Conduct regular reviews of project to ensure women and girls are effectively engaged and determine approaches to increase effectiveness of gender and inclusion approaches.
- Support strengthened gender, age and disability disaggregated data and gender and diversity analysis with in the genderneeds assessment, collection and analysis.
- Support the development of key results indicators and tools.
Resources and learning
- Generate gender briefs, concepts and success stories; lead in documenting successes in programme implementation, specifically on aspects related to gender.
- Provide technical support and capacity development of staff on gender responsiveness and sensitivity in programming.
- Contribute to learning and evidencebuilding on gender as related to climate adaptation and resilience, including by collecting and sharing good practice.
- Coordinate with the second URRI consortia on issues related to Gender.
Strategy and policy
- Provide support to business development, fundraising and partnership development.
- Build partnerships, incl. in support of evidencebuilding, advocacy and learning.
- Represent in URRI in relevant forums and contribute to key advocacy messages related to gender, climate and environment.
Coordination
- Coordinate and build strategic alliances with other gender focused and protection focused partners or key actors either internally or externally to advocate for gender sensitive programming.
- Coordinate with the DANIDA funded SAY project and ensure joint initiatives and strategic engagement.
Additional tasks
- Monitor and promote Danida’s visibility and interests including URRI Communication and Visibility Guidelines.
- Support the development of communications materials.
- On request, perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors to allow the organization to function optimally.
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a good understanding of human rightsbased approaches, Outstanding relationship management and communication skills, Ability to establish collaborative working relationships across district locations. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Advanced degree in Gender Studies, Diversity and Inclusion, International Development or another relevant field
- At least 6 years’ experience in gender equality and equity or program management work.
- Experience of working with gender transformative approaches, empowering young women, and girls, changing gender norms and engaging men and boys to promote gender equality.
- Proven experience combining formal expertise on gender mainstreaming and gender equality with experience of applying these concretely to specific humanitarian program sectors, plans, policies and processes.
- Ability to communicate ideas in a culturally sensitive manner and conducive to their practical application.
- Comprehensive understanding of gender concepts, theories, and frameworks such as intersectionality, gender mainstreaming, and women’s empowerment.
- Experience in advocacy and networking to promote gender equality, women’s rights and social justice issues in the community and national/international platforms.
- Ability to develop and deliver technical trainings.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including writing and facilitation.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a small team, and to form close working relationships with a diverse range of multicultural colleagues.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Poin.
- Able and willing to travel within West Nile, Uganda and the region as relevantAbility to assess climate risks, develop recommendations and provide technical support for programming to improve resilience and support climate adaptation.
- Ability to develop and deliver technical trainings (in one or more relevant technical fields, see abov.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as part of a small team, and to form close working relationships with a diverse range of multicultural colleagues.

- Strong knowledge of climate change and environment issues in West Nile, Uganda
- Knowledge / experience in conflict sensitivity and/or conflict resolution
