Under the overall guidance of the Chief of Data and Information Management Section (C/DIM) the incumbent will perform the following duties related to the WIS 2.0 implementation and the development of the WIS2 in a box software (https://github.com/wmo-im/wis2box ):
– Support WMO Members in the implementation of a WIS2 node using WIS2 in a box software, with particular focus on spanish speaking countries;
– Contribute to the WIS2 in a box development as required by the software development plan;
– Participate in training workshops on WIS 2.0, organized by WMO Secretariat in according to the WIS 2.0 implementation plan;
– Contribute to the development of training material for WIS 2.0 and related open source software;
– Collect requirements from WMO Members related to systems for data sharing and data management;
– Contribute to the development of an open source Climate Data Management System;
– Contribute to open source development as required by WIS 2.0 implementation;
– Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education University degree or equivalent in computer science, or a closely related field. |

Experience Proven experience in: – Developing Python applications for weather data exchange – Familiarity with the open source software used in the WIS2 in a box software: Docker, MinIO, Nginx, Vue.js, Flask, Elasticsearch. – Encoding and decoding WMO BUFR format. – Developing or maintaining software for collecting data from weather observing stations – Experience in implementing a WIS2 node using WIS2 in a box software would be an advantage. |

Other requirements High sense of integrity, responsibility, and maturity of judgment; ability to work autonomously; good level of initiative and creativity; demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage multiple workloads. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English and Spanish (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |
