The position of Associate Social Development Officer (Gender and Development) resides in the Gender Equality Division (CCGE) within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department (CCSD), in our ADB Headquarters in Manila, Philippines. You will be assigned to primarily support gender mainstreaming in private sector operations. You will report to designated international staff and may oversee consultants.

As an Associate Social Development Officer (Gender and Development), you will (i) support private sector projects to effectively mainstream gender equality into design, implementation and evaluation, in line with ADB gender policies, strategies, guidelines and processes; (ii) contribute to consultations and engagement with the client companies, development partners, civil society and other relevant stakeholders in relation to private sector projects; (iii) support technical assistance (TA) projects on gender equality and private sector; and (iii) support development of knowledge products and events on related topics.

You will:

  • Support private sector deal teams and clients in designing gender mainstreaming measures that directly narrow gender gaps and incorporate gender equality actions in the design of gender assessment and action plans (GAAPs) for assigned projects in line with ADB’s project gender mainstreaming system.
  • Support monitoring of private sector project gender action plans (GAPs) through review of client monitoring reports, participate in online or in-person project reviews and, if required visit project sites, to compile relevant project data, document client progress, prepare reports (including back to office reports), and implement necessary follow-up actions.
  • Support preparation of the gender inputs for extended annual review reports for project completion and evaluation of implementation success.
  • Support the GAP administration process including updating the existing database on GAP implementation status of private sector projects, in coordination with project team leaders and clients, and provide support for development and roll-out of new bank-wide Gender Equality Monitoring System (GEMS).
  • Support gender and private sector TA processing, implementation and administration, including budget, contract management, and disbursements.
  • Support development of relevant knowledge products, delivery of knowledge events related to gender equality and the private sector, and support development of reports, case studies, briefing papers or other communication products as required.
  • Support work planning, coordination and budget management for CCGE’s private sector gender team.
  • Collaborate effectively across CCGE and with ADB private sector and other department colleagues in carrying out all tasks.
  • Any other work tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

You will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, social sciences, development studies, economics, business or related fields; preferably with advanced training
  • At least 6 years of relevant professional experience
  • Understanding of and commitment to gender equality in the private sector, including strategies and entry points for advancing gender equality through private sector projects.
  • Proven project management experience, preferably relevant to gender equality and/or private sector.
  • Proficiency in IT systems and platforms, including MS Word, PowerPoint, databases and online budget and travel systems. Familiarity with ADB IT systems is an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal proficiency in English
  • Experience in knowledge production, events management and communications is an asset.
