JOB DETAIL

Internship in the Chief Scientist Office

Internship title: Investigating the state of autogenerative artificial intelligence (AI) methods in the Earth Sciences and its potential applications of EUMETSAT satellite data

EUMETSAT intends to develop a strategic action plan, building on existing experience and facilitating the exploitation of EUMETSAT data through the Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) potential, understanding its limitations and strengths.

This internship is well aligned with key EUMETSAT priorities in order to further exploit satellite data through AI/ML methods. EUMETSAT is the only organization that can offer the possibility to work on planning AI/ML applications to satellite data.

We are looking for a motivated student intern to join the Chief Scientist Division. The intern will have a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge artificial intelligence topics, and to develop key soft-skills based on the knowledge learned in the academic environment.

The intern will have the possibility to interact with different divisions across the organisation.

Duties

The main tasks of the internship will be to:

  • Understand a market and literature analysis to see where autogenerative AI has been applied across various the Earth sciences, including the Large Language Model (LLM) – e.g. ChatBots – or Generative-Adversarial Networks (GANs);
  • Review generative AI applications within agencies, companies and met services, and the literature, identifying historical trends and making logical extrapolations as to where the potential lies in the future;
  • Design and run a survey to analyse attitudes across several different stakeholders (EUMETSAT, partner agencies, Met Services) towards the uses of generative AI.
  • In addition, the intern will support relevant day-to-day activities within the team.

LOCATION

Darmstadt, Germany

QUALIFICATIONS

The internships are open to bachelor and master students with mandatory internship requirements in relevant disciplines such as Applied Math, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, & Digital Business, Applied Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation, Computer Science with AI specialization, Environmental/Earths Sciences, Aerospace Engineering.
