JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSprovides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretarial Entities Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the Infrastructure Cell of Campus Support , within Central Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy. The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief Campus Support Unit.
Responsibilities
Within the delegated authority, the Carpenter will be responsible for the following duties: • Design, construct, and repair metal cabinets, benches, doors, window frames, and other types of metal products. • Receive and review engineering work order requests, blueprints, or sketches for specific jobs. • Estimate material requirements and necessary tools or equipment. • Set up and operate metalworking tools to cut, shape, and finish materials. Erect or dismantle structures, including roofing, siding, and prefabricated buildings. Repair and refinish walls, structures, roofs, and drywall. • Repair door locks and windows. • Lubricate and maintain carpentryspecific equipment while using and caring for power tools. Install iron, steel, aluminum, and other metal parts, as well as glass or replacement glass, floor tiles, and ceiling tiles. • Prepare scaffolding as required for roughingin and finishing carpentry, painting, and refinishing objects, walkways, and floor slabs, etc. • Perform repair work on metal furniture. • Perform other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Work Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of practical experience is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (1) year for candidates who possess a firstlevel university degree or higher. Experience in evaluating all kinds of iron, steel, aluminum items and in selecting the best quality of tools and equipment is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competencybased interview.
Special Notice
Recruitment for this position is done on a local basis. This position is temporarily available for six (6) months, with the possibility of an extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. This position is subject to local recruitment pursuant to staff rule 4 of the United Nations Staff Rules.
