ABOUT Aviation Safty Officer AT WFP
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFis the world’s largest humanitarian agency dedicated to fighting hunger. WFP’s mission is to help the world achieve zero hunger. THE ROLE
The WFP also provides air transport services, ensuring safe, reliable, and costeffective transportation for humanitarian and development actors from Ouagadougou to around thirty localities, allowing access to the most vulnerable populations. The world’s largest humanitarian agency also supports the government and its partners through food and nutrition security analysis, as well as the provision of logistics, information, and communication technology services.
The Aviation Safety Officer is responsible for actively supporting the management and implementation of aviation safety standards, ensuring that all operations are conducted in accordance with international standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not allinclusive, within delegated authorit:
Under the direct supervision of the CATO UNHAS, the incumbent will be responsible to perform the following generic duties:
- Implementation of UNHAS BF Aviation Safety program in the AFO (Aviation Field Operatio.
- Act as the aviation safety expert and focal point for all safety related issue in Burkina Faso.
- Liaison with the ANAC on all safety matters and on collecting update of the FIR information, the status of the navigation aids, air traffic control, meteorology, fire and rescue and wildlife management for all airports in Burkina Faso.
- Organizing the monthly Safety and Security Meetings. Review and finalizing the meeting minutes.
- Attend aviation related meetings/gatherings called on by the airport authorities and share its minutes with UNHAS management.
- Coordination and communication with ICRC and other stakeholders for the Safety information gathering and dissemination.
- Collect/update all occurrence reports and coordination with operators and with respective entity/individuals.
- Liaison with airfield and civil aviation authorities for safety related incidents.
- Presenting the Occurrence followup briefing in the monthly Safety and Security meetings.
- Maintain all data base on safety incidents in the AFO and prepares monthly summaries.
- Perform the AOSI (Aircraft Acceptance into Operational Service Inspection Repor.
- Perform the aircraft review biannually.
- Maintain all aircraft documentations and update as required.
- Plan and organize the AERP (aviation emergency response plaTabletop exercises.
- Updating and reviewing the Aviation Risk Register.
- Providing the AFO Safety briefing to new arrival flight crews, ground staff etc.
- Perform the airfield assessments and UNHAS field station evaluations.
- Managing the AFO library.
- Assist the UNHAS management to collect and maintain an overview of safety data.
- Review the crew documents/qualifications and accept them to mission. Maintain all crew documentations and update as required.
- Implementation of safety Awareness program.
- Preparing the quarterly airfield risk assessments schedule and submitting to Air Operators for implementation.
- Making sure adequate number of serviceable fire extinguishers are located at the designated spots as per safety requirements to guarantee 100% safe and secure operations at the aprons all the times.
- Implementation of the FOD (Foreign Object Debriprevention program.
- Ensure safety measures and procedures are followed in the vicinity of aircraft(.
- With support of the RASO, supervising the safety aspects of the UNHAS airbridges i.e., the flights safety arrangements, induction briefings.
- Supervision of staff as required.
- Performs risk assessments prior to the tasking of aircraft and keeps all personnel informed of the actual and potential hazards and causes of accidents/incidents

Education:
- An advanced university degree in aeronautics, aeronautical engineering, airport management, or another relevant field, or a first university degree with additional years of relevant experience and/or additional training/courses.
- Holding or having held a commercial pilot’s license, air traffic control license, flight operations officer license (or equivalen, aeronautical engineer, or aircraft maintenance engineer license.
Experience :
- Minimum one or more years of relevant professional work experience in aviation roles.
- At least 5 years of progressive and practical professional experience in commercial or humanitarian aviation will be an asset,
