Job Description

Your responsibilities

The Institutional Repositories section of the ITCA Group at CERN aims to provide tools to archive, preserve, and maintain longterm access to content that holds legitimate interest for CERN.

As a graduate joining our team, you will contribute to the European project “EOSC EDEN”, focused on Longterm access and preservation infrastructure development for EOSC, including data quality aspects. By collaborating with expert organizations in digital preservation, and with a variety of disciplinary archives, you will take part in the definition of common specifications and protocols. Interoperable implementations should also support the agreed specifications among all collaborating institutes.

Your key responsibilities will therefore include:

  • Collaborate closely with the EU project partners to define systems requirements and specifications;
  • Implement and integrate CERN related usecases into EOSC. A particular focus will be on developing further the existing CERN “Preserve” platform so that it is aligned with the EOSC Long Term Preservation vision and it can cope with the digital data produced and managed at CERN;
  • Validate the preservation specifications with a commercial partner in order to enable future workflows between institutions and preservation service providers.

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

  • Knowledge of programming techniques and languages: advanced knowledge of Python programming; Experience with the Django framework is a plus; Experience working in Open Source software projects is also a plus.
  • Knowledge in Data Science, Information System Architecture and the Digital Archiving good practices (OAIis a plus.
  • Knowledge of system configuration tools: Experience with containerbased technologies and configuration platforms (e.g. Docker, OpenShifis a plus.
  • Knowledge of storage technologies: Knowledge of storage management systems (CTA, etc.) and/or HEP data management frameworks is a plus.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computing, Data Science (or a related fieland your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
