Duties and Responsibilities
The UNODC New York Liaison Office represents UNODC at United Nations Headquarters. It ensures representation at intergovernmental and interagency meetings; it coordinates with other United Nations entities and interacts closely with Permanent Missions to the United Nations in New York and with other institutions and organizations, including NGOs, in areas of crime prevention and criminal justice as transnational organized crime, trafficking in persons and migrant smuggling, corruption, terrorism and drug control. The intern reports to the Drug Control and Crime Prevention Officer (P3) and/or the Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Office (P3). The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: 1) Provide assistance in monitoring worldwide developments related to UNODC’s mandate (e.g. on transnational organized crime, terrorism, human trafficking, smuggling of migrants, money laundering, corruption, and illicit drug trad; 2) Conduct research for, and contribute to the preparation of documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks and web content; 3) Attend and take notes at meetings (e.g. General Assembly, Security Council, Third Committe; 4) Assist in the organization of, and during, meetings, highlevel debates and conferences, including virtual meetings held via online platforms; 5) Identify, research, and draft communications and advocacy material (text, photos, event flyers, speaker quote cards, documents and multimedifor online publication (website and social medi; 6) Help to update the Office’s information and resource tools and manage the Office records and other key documents; 7) Perform other tasks as necessary. This is an unpaid, fulltime, 40 hours a week internship.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at least have the minimum level of education of a high school diploma. If you meet the criteria, please attach proof to the application. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.Applicants must have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Intern Specific text
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
