JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The purpose of the programme is:

 

  • To provide interns with the opportunity to gain practical work experience in line with their studies or interests, and expose them to the work of the IAEA and the United Nations as a whole;
  • To benefit the IAEA’s programmes through the assistance of qualified students specialized in various professional fields.
  • The duration of an internship is normally not less than three months and not more than one year.

 

 

Organizational Setting 

 

The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (Nformulates and implements the IAEA’s nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the IAEA’s activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure, and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.

 

The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEis part of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security and reports to the Deputy Director General, Head of the Department. The IEC serves as the IAEA’s focal point for preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies regardless of their cause, and for strengthening Member States’ preparedness for response.

 

 

 

 

Main Purpose

 

The internship supports the Members State Preparedness Unit in the Incident and Emergency Centre, on different activities related to assist Member States, in strengthening their arrangements for Emergency Preparedness and Response (EPto nuclear or radiological emergencies and is contributing to the implementation of Technical Cooperation Projects related to EPR in the Latin America and Caribbean Region (TCLAC, the implementation of training events and other capacity building activities in EPR organized by the IEC, especially to the Latin America and Caribbean Region, and the development of guidance in EPR and associated training materials.

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

The intern will:

 

  • Support the process of implementation of EPR training events (such as first responders, national radiological emergency plan, protection strategy, GSR part 7, among others related to EP, through review and update of training material, gathering, and maintaining records, preparing of the elearning platform for each event and colleting feedback from it, notetaking at meetings, and providing technical inputs for the entire process.

 

  • Support the development of publications (updat, through providing technical information, review of documentation, and gathering and maintaining records to the whole process.

 

 

  • Support the update of training material available at the IEC, mainly the Spanish versions, based on the updated material (English versiothrough providing technical information, gathering, and maintaining records on the update process.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • University degree in natural sciences, nuclear engineering, or a related field.

 

  • Ideally, knowledge in Emergency Preparedness and Response, or in the Nuclear or Radiological field

Applicant Eligibility

 

  • Candidates must be a minimum of 20 years of age and have completed at least three years of fulltime studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree.

 

  • Candidates may apply up to one year after the completion of a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree.

  • Good written and spoken English essential; fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish or Russiaan asset.
