OBJECTIVE OF THE OFFICE/DEPARTMENT

 

This requisition is for employment at the Pan American Health Organization (PAH/Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WH

 

The objective of the Department of Communications (CMof the Pan American Health Organization is to lead in the development, implementation, and management of PAHO’s corporate communication strategy at all levels, internally and externally, within a complex range of media outlets and platforms and media relations and a 24/7 information cycle. Corporate communication is essential to PAHO’s mission and strategic priorities and the advancement of the principles and practices of communication in support of sound public health principles and practices and PAHO’s mission in the delivery of technical cooperation in the Region of the Americas. As the lead multilateral organization in the Region of the Americas and globally recognized, PAHO’s communication must be “best in class” utilizing the necessary leadership, strategies, approaches, tools, and technologies in support of PAHO’s roles and responsibilities across a multiplicity of languages, cultures, and political dynamics, with a keen focus on public health, science, and evidence.

 

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

 

Under the general supervision of the Director of Communications (CMand the direct supervision of the Advisor, Public Affairs (CMU/P, the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following assigned duties:

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Provide technical support for and actively contribute to the formulation and implementation of PAHO’s social media strategy, ensuring that all internal entities are guided by a common social media strategy and vision;

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Develop and write engaging content, including visual and datadriven storytelling for social media platforms;

 

<![if !supportLists]>    <![endif]>Create a bank of assets – such as cards, statistic tiles, GIFs, short videos and other products – for specific campaigns and issues in order to showcase PAHO’s work more widely, based on key messages agreed with technical departments. Work to make messages conversational, engaging, and understandable by a wide range of audiences, including the media;

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Propose influencer marketing opportunities by identifying: a range of reliable influencers who can be activated as needed and engaged during high visibility opportunities, and other highlevel advocacy initiatives to communicate around specific issues of WHO;

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Provide support for and actively contribute to the development of criteria and benchmarks for social media analytics;

 

<![if !supportLists]>    <![endif]>Produce regular social media analytics reports and monitor the public discourse on social media platforms relevant to public health and PAHO, as well as industry trends;

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Provide support for the management of PAHO’s and PAHO Director’s social media presence on various platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, for timeliness, accuracy, relevance, and communicating to target audience. Propose content ideas, wordsmithing copies, leveraging news moments and framing tweets/social copies, advising on social media presence and interviews for social media among other;

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Maintain close communication and collaborate with other communications team members across PAHO/WHO to generate and improve as required content/material for social media communications. Ensure coherence with global social media policies and guidelines and liaise with HQ on global social media advocacy issues;

 

<![if !supportLists]>     <![endif]>Work with other Communications team members on the development and implementation of social media campaigns including guided interaction with followers and other audiences, contributing to the strong positioning of PAHO in a wide range of communication related products;

 

<![if !supportLists]>    <![endif]>Participate in missions as required, to support social media/online/digital communications for special events and occasions and/or related to health emergencies in the region;

 

<![if !supportLists]>   <![endif]>Contribute to building the capacity of communications officers in Country Offices and technical departments in social media outreach through targeted trainings, by creating templates, encouraging participation in HQ trainings and providing shareable content;

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

 

Essential: A bachelor’s degree in social media / digital media /multimedia, communications, social sciences, development studies, public relations, journalism, or any other field related to the functions of the post from a recognized university.

 

Desirable: Specific coursework/training in specialized social/digital media platforms and channels, related software packages, video/multimedia storytelling, and other similar training would be an asset.

Experience:

 

Essential: Five years of combined national and international experience in managing social media accounts and communications for an organization or enterprise within the UN System, or an international agency/organization or a health/development/human rights NGO/CSO.

 

Desirable: Relevant experience in WHO or in the health field would be an asset.

Languages:

 

Very good knowledge of Spanish or English with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.

 

IT Skills:

 

Demonstrated ability to effectively use current technology and software, spreadsheets and presentations, as well as social media and monitoring tools such as Hootsuite, Meltwater, as well as demonstrated familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, WhatsApp and TikTok. Experience in design software and platform, such as Photoshop or Canva desirable.

 

REMUNERATION

 

Annual Salary: (Net of taxe

 

USD $50,00 post adjustment

 

Post Adjustment: 2% of the above figure(.  This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
