The Directorate for Legal Affairs (LEG) is a small and highly integrated team that provides advice and information on the legal, institutional and procedural aspects of the Organisation’s activities.

LEG is looking to recruit a Junior Legal Adviser to work in the Grants and Intellectual Property Unit of the General Legal Affairs Division. While the focus of the work will be on administrative matters relating to the OECD’s financing arrangements (voluntary contributions and grant, the selected candidate may also be called upon to provide legal advice on intellectual property, personal data protection issues as well as other specialised areas of the law.

The selected candidate, who will work under the supervision of the Head of Unit, must possess excellent skills in legal analysis and drafting, strong organisational skills and attention to detail, as well as good political and diplomatic sensitivity. The selected candidate must be able to thrive on multitasking in a fastpaced environment.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities

  • Review financing arrangements (voluntary contributions and grantand provide assistance with the negotiations of their terms and conditions.
  • Provide legal guidance on the interpretation and application of OECD internal rules, more particularly on the Financial Regulations and Instructions and other relevant norms.
  • Carry out research and analysis relating to a variety of legal topics.
  • Draft legal opinions and documents, including correspondence, notes, and briefing materials, ensuring they meet high standards of clarity and precision.
  • Participate in meetings and consultations with internal stakeholders and external counterparts, providing legal support and advice where necessary.
  • Maintain organised records and documentation of legal matters, including contract terms, legal research to ensure easy access and reference.
  • Collaborate with other staff in the Legal Directorate and contribute to team projects, ensuring deadlines are met and legal tasks are completed efficiently.

Academic Background

  • Postgraduate University degree in law (e.g., masters equivalent or Juris Docto.

Professional Background

  • At least two years’ relevant professional experience in positions focusing on contract drafting and negotiation, with experience in the identification of key issues and risks, their prioritisation and the provision of viable solutions.
  • Experience in working with the two main legal systems of relevance to the Organisation (civil and common laand/or of the laws relating to intellectual property, personal data protection issues and new technologies/internet would also be an advantage.
  • Experience working in an international environment would also be considered an advantage.

Languages

  • An excellent written and oral command of one of the two OECD official languages (English and Frencand knowledge of the other, with a commitment to reach a good working level.
  • Ability to verify the equivalence of texts in both languages.

Contract Duration
