Program Overview

WRI Indonesia’s urban mobility portfolio focus on reducing cities’ GHG emission through sustainable transportation, vehicle electrification and, in-paralel with the energy and climate programs, greening the electricity grid to reach optimum emission reduction. Our mission is to help cities and provinces to implement low carbon development, particularly in transportation and energy sectors, to achieve economic, social, and environmental goals.

 

One of the initiatives is called Bali Transportation Decarbonization. This program aims to achieve Bali’s Net Zero Emissions by 2045 in the transportation sector through the development of a decarbonization road map and the establishment of an equitable Low Emission Zone (LEZ). The decarbonization roadmap serves as a reference for strategies and policies to reduce carbon emissions, focusing not only on vehicle electrification but also on transport system efficiency. This approach includes reducing travel demand and distance (avoid), shifting from high-emission vehicles to public transport and non-motorized transport (shift), and using renewable energy sources and fuel switching (improvement).

 

The development of an equitable LEZ is a key strategy that empirically tests the implementation of transportation decarbonization in Bali. The equitable LEZ aims to become an area model for implementing decarbonization strategies in the transportation sector. It will also use an enabling ecosystem approach and demonstrate a low-carbon transportation system to create socio-economic opportunities in the area. The needs of low carbon technology to improve local economy indicator and its safeguard for implementation should be raised by doing the proper assessment and research.

 

To support the planning and implementation of the Bali Transportation Decarbonization program, WRI Indonesia seeks a green economy research intern to assist with green infrastructure financing needs analysis and research, as well as other support for the Bali Net Zero Emissions 2045 Initiative.

 

General Internship Roles

The Green Economy Research Intern will be actively involved in various financing solutions research works within the Bali Transportation Decarbonization initiatives, specifically on policy analysis and research on green economy and financing solution for transportation decarbonization. This will include performing desk research, carrying out interviews with key stakeholders, and analyzing data on the effects and practicalities of low carbon technology provider and financial institution.

 

Furthermore, the intern will also actively supporting the development and execution of the strategy, participating in stakeholder engagement activities, and assisting in creating materials necessary for these activities. and wide opportunities to support other initiatives within Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition/PMO Secretariat program.

 

This position will be based in Bali, Indonesia with office-flex working arrangement and report directly to the Green Infrastructure Finance Specialist.

What You Will Learn

  1. Learning experience and exposed to various sustainable transportation solution, including its financing and low carbon technology procurement.
  2. Developing research skills and applying findings to strategic planning and research for sustainable transportation solution for its financing.
    1. Involvement in policy and regulatory analysis on sustainable transportation solution.
    2. Involvement in research and data analysis on transportation decarbonization solutions, low emission zones and low carbon technology.
    3. Involvement in event planning and execution, data collection and processing, and project development, as necessary.
    4. Involvement in research survey and interview with various financial institutions and government agencies in conducting proper solution for low carbon technology procurement.
  3. Develop engagement skills and apply them to support the Bali Net Zero Emission Coalition.
    1. Engage with key stakeholders in the field of low carbon technology, with a focus on government agencies and financial institution, to support the development and implementation of net zero emission initiatives.
    2. Assist with meetings and other external communication tasks.

 

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s Degree in economics, management, business, transportation, environment, urban development, civil engineering or any other related field.
  • Studies, interest or experience working on financing, transportation solution, public private partnership, environment, and low carbon technology issues is preferred.
  • Experience conducting research and data analysis using various tools.
  • Basic analytical skills to interpret data and assess the impact of low carbon technologies and financing solutions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in Bahasa Indonesia and English on both verbal and written
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholder
  • Highly motivated, strong can-do attitude, proactive work style and excellent organizational skills and work-ethic.
  • Legally able to enroll on an internship program in Indonesia.
  • Ability and willingness to work from Bali, Indonesia.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to other provinces/cities in Indonesia if assigned
