JOB DESCRIPTION

Background

Through the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) program that is funded by the World Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has developed a course on cost-benefit analysis for climate information services and will be partnering with the Institute for Meteorological Training and Research (IMTR) to deliver this course to County Director of Meteorological Services (CDMS) at the IMTR campus in Nairobi, Kenya, in December 2024.

IFPRI will fund the costs incurred by IMTR to organize the training via a subcontractor agreement. To apply for this position, please include a technical proposal for the envisioned collaboration with AICCRA, including how the training will be used to facilitate CDMS’ practical applications of cost-benefit analysis of climate information services, and a financial proposal / budget.

 

Scope of work

  • Develop a concept note in the format of an AICCRA Info Note (building on the technical proposal submitted at the time of application)
  • Provide a training venue for a week-long training in Nairobi, Kenya
  • Arrange for meals and accommodation for training participants
  • Reimburse participants for travel costs to participate in the training
  • Provide a training report and describe follow-up steps in an AICCRA Training Report

Required qualifications of the consultant / survey team leader

  • Strong demonstrated track record in training personnel in Meteorology, Operational Hydrology and related geo-sciences in Kenya and other English-speaking countries in Africa.
  • Ability to organize and host specialized training courses through existing infrastructure, manpower and collaboration with other institutions locally, regionally and internationally.
  • Having access to existing training facilities in Nairobi, Kenya.

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrated capacity to work with CDMS to translate material learned from training into practical applications.
  • Plan in place for working with CDMS to implement cost-benefit analysis of climate information services in 2025 and beyond.
