We seek a dynamic and experienced leader to join as Climate and Environment Managing Director.

As Climate and Environmental Managing Director, you will report directly to the Chief Industries Officer and be responsible for achieving the climate targets.

What you’ll do

  • Responsible for consolidating a Climate strategic vision aligned with the IDB Invest Business Plan, the Institutional Strategy of the IDB Group, and Upper Management views.
  • Provide support on Climate Change topics to the Regions Department in its dialogue with governments regarding private sector engagement of IDB Invest.
  • Provide Delivery Units with oversight and guidance in their strategic, tactic, and operational activities.
  • Provide technical assistance and advisory services to clients on climate and environment supporting delivery units in achieving its impact targets.
  • Define climate and environment priorities and roadmaps, including the definition of upstream work from a thematic perspective.
  • Provide strategic leadership and alignment in climate and environment for developing key corporate, institutional, and IDB Group strategic initiatives.
  • Articulate and generate actionable climate and environment-focused knowledge in coordination with regions and industry heads.
  • Participate in delivering the annual program goals.
  • Manage operational, human, and budgetary resources assigned.
  • Coordinate with responsible units to fund advisory services and technical assistance.
  • Coordinate with the new Office of Climate Change created within the IDB to promote synergies and collaboration between public and private sectors to offer the best solutions to clients.

What you’ll need

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience with a proven track record in the field and managing teams. Proven expertise across financial services, in-depth knowledge of climate and environment, and the private sector’s role in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
  • Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
  • There are no citizenship requirements.
  • Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
