About this position

We seek a dynamic and experienced leader to join as Managing Director for the Andean Group.

The candidate should be an experienced banker with significant regional expertise, a proven track record of successful business development, deep knowledge of the countries, and strong relationships with relevant private sector companies operating in the region.

As Managing Director, you will be responsible for achieving the region’s business and impact targets. You will report directly to the Chief Regions Officer and be responsible for achieving the countries’ impact and business targets. You will supervise Countries’ Representatives of the region, including Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, and the three region’s delivery unit heads.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintain relationships with governments and participate in business development with private sector clients and entities.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to the Country Representatives, supporting their strategic, tactical, and operational responsibilities.
  • Oversee and is responsible for business performance from a regional perspective with the Delivery Units (organized teams by industries and regions responsible for originating, structuring, and supervising transactions).
  • Together with the corresponding Country Representatives, shape country strategies from a private sector perspective.
  • Define countries’ priorities and strategies and establish upstream work.
  • Identify, promote, and execute synergies with IDB and IDB Lab.
  • Manage operational, human, capital, and budgetary resources at the unit level.
  • Coordinate with IDB (VPS) and IDB Lab counterparts to promote synergies.

Requirements

At least 10 years of relevant experience as a banker with a proven business track record. Proven regional expertise and strong relationships with the market and clients in Latin America and the Caribbean.

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Law, Engineering, or another relevant field.
  • Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank’s official languages (Spanish, French, or Portuguese) is required.
  • There are no citizenship requirements.
  • Consanguinity: No family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
