Are you an Engineer or Applied physicist looking to develop your skills in instrumentation, data analysis, and applied superconductivity? The TM section is responsible for the testing and magnetic measurement of the normal and superconducting magnets for the CERN accelerators.
In the open position, as magnet test engineer, you will actively participate in the testing of low and high-temperature superconducting magnets, for the HL-LHC project, the high-field magnet programme HFM, medical applications, and other R&D projects.
Your tasks and responsibilities will include:
• Follow up magnet tests in the SM18 superconducting magnets test facility, with a strong focus on analysis of the test data;
• Define the test plans together with the magnet project engineers;
• Investigate performance and degradation indicators in superconducting magnets for particle accelerators;
• Research and develop new instrumentation and measurements techniques;
• Apply and work on new software tools to automate and standardize data analysis;
• Store analysis results and metadata in the lab’s Oracle database;
• Write test reports and scientific articles, present test results to magnet experts.

What we offer
About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
