JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Team Lead, Article 6.2 unit, P-4, the incumbent will draw upon their extensive
experience with the reporting and review processes under the UNFCC to provide technical advice and
support in the implementation and delivery of Article 6 technical expert reviews of the reporting by
Parties participating in cooperative approaches that involve the international transfer of mitigation
outcomes referred to in Article 6, paragraph 2 of the Paris Agreement (PA). The unit also works closely
with other units of the Mitigation and Transparency divisions.

Your responsibilities
1. Providing technical expertise to the Team Lead in the implementation and delivery of Article
6 technical expert reviews of the reporting by Parties participating in cooperative approaches involving the international transfer of mitigation outcomes referred to in Article
6, paragraph 2 of the PA (Article 6 technical expert reviews):
a. Provide technical advice to the unit on strategies and implementation plans for the Article 6
technical expert review process, including materials that underpin the review process;
b. Provide quality assessment/quality control (QA/QC) for the Article 6 technical expert review;
c. Support the Team Lead and Manager through the analysis of policy and methodological issues
related to Article 6 technical expert reviews.
2. Supporting the implementation and delivery of Article 6 technical expert reviews:
a. Undertake the coordination and delivery of Article 6 technical expert reviews, including
scheduling, coordination and communication with experts and Parties under review;
b. Prepare and maintain templates, documents, operating procedures, internal manuals and other
documents as part of the internal processes management system for Article 6 technical expert
reviews;
c. Maintain the Article 6 technical expert review web pages and other internal and external
communication channels;
d. Ensure effective support is provided to the Team Lead on Article 6 technical expert review
matters, including:
o Prepare complex, high-quality analytical papers and materials relating to the reviews
of the Article 6 reports from Parties participating in cooperative approaches;
o Support the drafting of technical reports on reviews and coordinating inputs of the
Article 6 review experts;
o Ensure Article 6 technical expert review are published timely, including coordination of
editing services;
3. Providing technical advice and support with the implementation and delivery of Article 6
technical expert reviews, including supporting capacity building with internal and external
stakeholders:
a. Develop and update the Article 6.2 Reference Manual, revising relevant sections based on
guidance from the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Paris
Agreement (CMA) and comments from Parties and technical experts, as well as input from
Markets and Non-Markets Support and Stakeholders Interaction subdivision of the Mitigation
Division, as appropriate;
b. Support the development and updating of training materials for technical experts who conduct
Article 6 technical reviews;
c. Support the organization and delivery of training sessions for nominated technical experts for
assessment and inclusion into the Roster of Experts for Article 6 in coordination with the Article
6 Capacity Building Unit;
d. Provide capacity building and training on Article 6 reporting and review processes to internal
and external stakeholders;
e. Draft technical papers and reports, in particular as relevant for the annual report to the CMA on
the compilation and synthesis of the results of the Article 6 TER.
4. Perform any other job-related activity required to achieve the goals and objectives of the division
and/or secretariat.

Your qualifications
Educational Background:
Required: Advanced university degree (Masters) in development studies, economics, political
science, international relations, environmental studies, or in a related discipline. A
combination of a university degree plus two years of substantial professional experience
in the field may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree in the relevant discipline.

Experience:
Required: At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience on issues
related to climate change policies, intergovernmental negotiations and/or national GHG
inventories and national communications from Parties, at least three years of which
should have been at the international level. Prior experience as a Technical Expert in
other UNFCCC reporting and review process is highly desirable. Experience as a Lead
Reviewer in other UNFCCC reporting and review processes is an asset.
Language skills:
Required: Excellent skills in written and spoken English. Knowledge of another United Nations
language is desirable.
Specific professional knowledge:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, flexibility and organizational skills. Ability to work
independently and proactively. Ability to understand scientific and technical ideas and papers is an advantage as is the understanding of technology and implementation of technology projects/innovation
is a strong asset.
