Responsibilities
Under the overall command of the Chief of Service, the security officer is required to perform armed security functions and reports directly to the security sergeant or supervising officer. Within delegated authority, the Security Officer may be responsible for the following duties: • Protects the life of persons in the UN complex and preserves UN property by providing security coverage of entry points throughout the United Nations complex to prevent entry to unauthorized person and the unauthorized removal of UN property. • Preserves the order by enforcing the application of UN policies and safety and security regulations, in line with ST/AI/5/2019. • Screens all personnel, packages and vehicles entering the UN complex to ensure authorized access. • Provides continuous coverage of cameras, telephone and radio communications systems and associated recording units in the Control Centers. • In the event of emergencies and incidents, alerts relevant units and dispatch security personnel to the site under the direction of the Sergeant in charge of the Control Centers. • Maintains logs and rosters and initiates chronological logs of events during emergency situations. • Prepares daily and weekly work schedules and various periodic reports. • Provides information and directions to all persons associated with the organization. • Controls pedestrian and vehicular traffic. • Is alert for any potential or actual breaches of security and any disturbances or unusual activity and reports these immediately. • Ensures that all UN property being carried from the complex is checked for appropriate documentation. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Officers are required to be in possession of valid host country licenses, including but not limited to: Motor vehicle permit from the appropriate issuing authorities within the Santiago Region. Your valid motor vehicle permit must be attached to your application.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in security operations, including civilian police force, military police, or any other relevant military operations is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to none for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in the emergency procedures: detection and handling of dangerous objects, handling of fire emergencies, use of metal detectors, use of firearms, etc, is required. Experience in self-defense techniques is required. Experience working for an international organization or United Nations entities is desirable. Experience in providing training and guidance on emergency procedures is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat, and Spanish is a working language of ECLAC. For this position fluency in Spanish and Knowledge of English are required.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview. Candidates who haven’t passed the United Nations Security Officer Test (SOT) will be required to take this test.
Special Notice
– Appointment for positions in the General Service category is done on a local basis. Applicants shall be recruited in the country or within commuting distance of the office, irrespective of nationality and length of time the candidate may have been in the country.
