On 29 May 1948, the United Nations Security Council, in its resolution 50 (1948) called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine and established the first peacekeeping mission headed by a UN Mediator with the assistance of a group of military observers to be known as the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). UNTSO is mandated to observe and maintain the unconditional ceasefires and assist the parties to the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the supervision of the application and observance of the terms of those Agreements. UNTSO’s mandate covers five countries, including Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. These two positions are located in the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), Naqoura-Lebanon and Damascus-Syria under the Life Support unit.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Supply Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Receives, verifies and issues authorized on-line requisitions for stores’ supplies from team leaders and military observers (UNMOs) in accordance with outstations monthly replenishment procedures. • Monitors stock of supplies in the stores; conducts regular stock taking of expendable items in the supply stores and informs the supervisor on discrepancies observed and on supplies which require stock replenishment in a timely manner. • Ensures that items in the supply stores are arranged in an orderly manner and ensures that supplies are issued to requestors before expiration date of the products. • Assists in raising requisitions for services and items required by the supply Stores and replenishment of the same through HQ, UNIFIL/UNDOF and / or commercial means. Participates in the RFQ (quotations) for low acquisition value of goods at the outstation; assists in receiving and inspecting (R&I) goods delivered by vendors, HQ or UNIFIL/UNDOF; forwards to R&I Unit for processing records of the goods in the system and issues to end users according to established procedures. • Assists in conducting periodic inventory of UN Non-Expendable property and attractive Property managed by Supply stores and updates records in the system by processing issue vouchers to individual end users of UN property for purpose of transparency and accountability. • Prepares write-off requests for property which is lost, obsolete or damaged. • Provides updates of write-off of assets lost, damaged or over life expectancy. • Assists in preparing a variety of monthly, yearly and ad hoc inventory reports of the Outstation’s property. • Maintains updates and ensures accuracy and completeness of computer database recording requisition details, purchase orders, delivery and other supply related actions and monitors reports. • Functions as the shipping administrator on UMOJA for creating shipping requests with respect to outgoing shipment of personnel effects of UNMOs who depart the mission area upon completion of assignment; responsible for liaising with shipping companies for the receipt and dispatch of shipments of personnel effects for the UNMOs. • Briefs and coordinates with UNMOs on their shipping entitlements with limitation over the dangerous goods policy on shipments; follows up and completes the relevant shipping documents inclusive of shipping insurance as per establish UN regulations. • Receives the shipments from the UNMOs and prepares the necessary documentation with gross weights and chargeable weights as per volume; Ensures dispatchment of the shipments to the shipping companies with the required documentation and makes the reports for UNTSO HQ; posts the relevant details on UMOJA. • Familiarizes new UNMOs with respect to induction of shipping entitlements, supply requirements and applicable UN guidelines and office procedures. • Covers the absence on leave for the Administrative Assistant in the outstation and performs other duties as required Performs other duties as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Technical or vocational certificate in at least one of the following areas: procurement/contract management, inventory management, and supply management is desirable.
Job – Specific Qualification
Valid Local Driving License is required (please attached copy) Working knowledge in Outlook, Microsoft 365, SAP System and UMOJA is required.
Work Experience
At least five (05) years of progressively responsible experience in inventory and supply management, property management, logistics, procurement, warehousing, administrative services, or related area is required. At least 2 years or more work experience on using SAP System / UMOJA is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Fluency in the local languages (Arabic) is desirable.
