GGGI began its operations in the Solomon Islands in 2019, focusing on capacity building for renewables, energy efficiency, rural electrification, and inclusive development. Since then, GGGI has implemented several national and regional projects funded by Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and others. Key achievements include the launch of the Solomon Islands Low Emission Development Strategy in 2023 and advancements in MRV systems, climate finance, and green entrepreneurship. GGGI’s engagement aligns with the priorities of the Solomon Islands Government, particularly in areas such as green finance, climate finance access, carbon market policy development, Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) investment planning, and e-mobility. By supporting these initiatives, GGGI aims to enhance the country’s resilience to climate change and promote sustainable, inclusive growth.

Currently, GGGI is collaborating with the Solomon Islands Government (SIG) through the Low Emission Climate Resilience Development (LECRD) Program, funded by New Zealand and Ireland. Based within the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management, and Meteorology, the LECRD Program focuses on developing a Carbon Trading Policy for the country.

To support the effective, efficient, and successful implementation of the LECRD Program, GGGI seeks a Project Associate based in the Solomon Islands. The Project Associate will play a crucial role in coordinating project activities, supporting stakeholder engagement, and ensuring the smooth operation of the program. This position reports to the LECRD Program Manager in Suva, Fiji, and works closely with colleagues and stakeholders in the Solomon Islands to achieve the program’s objectives.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Associate will play a critical role in supporting the coordination and implementation of the Low Emission Climate Resilience Development (LECRD) Program in the Solomon Islands. Reporting to the LECRD Program Manager based in Suva, Fiji, this position will support coordination efforts with team members, government ministries, and other stakeholders to ensure that project activities are aligned with the overall objectives of the LECRD Program.

The Project Associate will assist in maintaining project documentation, organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, and ensuring that project deliverables are tracked against timelines and budgets. The role also involves supporting communication across the project team, consultants, and government counterparts to facilitate smooth project operations.

Additionally, the Project Associate will work closely Solomon Islands team members and the regional with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Officer and relevant stakeholders to ensure that project activities are monitored and evaluated in line with GGGI’s standards and that lessons learned are integrated into ongoing project implementation.

 

PURPOSE

  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of the Low Emission Climate Resilience Development (LECRD) Program to ensure timely delivery of project activities.
  • Support the project manager in monitoring project milestones, deliverables, and budgets to maintain alignment with project objectives.
  • Maintain accurate and organized project documentation, including reports, schedules, and meeting minutes.
  • Assist in preparing project progress reports and updates for stakeholders, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
  • Provide logistical support for meetings, workshops, and training sessions related to the LECRD project.

ENGAGEMENT

 

  • Facilitate communication between team members, government counterparts, and external stakeholders to ensure effective project coordination.
  • Identify operational challenges and other factors that may impact the consistent and timely delivery of project milestones. Engage with project teams to ensure smooth coordination of logistics, timely submission of reports, and effective use of resources.
  • Advise project teams and management on potential remedial actions to address delays, budgetary variances, or resource constraints. Propose solutions to enhance project quality and ensure on-time delivery while maintaining budget compliance.
  • Assist in the development of project deliverables and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of project activities, including workshops, meetings, and training sessions. Identify and address any logistical or operational issues affecting project delivery.

 

DELIVERY

  • Support the project manager in ensuring that all project activities are implemented according to the established timelines and deliverables.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of periodic project reports, including technical progress, financial updates, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for all project-related events, including stakeholder meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Monitor project activities and budgets, ensuring that expenditures are in line with the project’s financial plan.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of project activities, including reports, meeting minutes, and communications.
  • Assist in tracking and reporting on project milestones, ensuring that activities are completed on time and within budget.
  • Support the preparation and submission of project reports, including progress updates, financial reports, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate logistical arrangements for project activities, including meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Ensure proper documentation of all project activities, including meeting minutes, project plans, and stakeholder communications.
  • Monitor the use of project resources, including tracking expenditures and reporting any variances to the project manager.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes, working closely with the MEL Officer to gather and analyze data.

REQUIREMENTS

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, Climate Change, Public Policy, Sustainable Development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 of professional experience in project coordination or support, preferably within the areas of climate change, environmental sustainability, or development projects.
  • Proven experience working with government institutions, international organizations, or non-governmental organizations (NGOs), particularly within the Pacific Islands region, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Solomon Islands Pijin is highly advantageous. Fluency in English is a must.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with experience in managing project documentation and reporting.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to support project coordination activities, including logistics, budget monitoring, and report preparation.
  • Experience in organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions, including coordinating logistics and managing event-related documentation.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies to track milestones and deliverables.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in project documentation, financial tracking, and reporting.
