PPH Associate

Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
The Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR’s Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources for refugees from the private sector. UNHCR has developed a Private Sector Fundraising Strategy 2018-2025 which has the ambition of growing PSP into a service capable of generating $1 Billion annually and identifies priority fundraising markets and regions.
As part of this strategy, and in order to achieve the ambitious objectives of mobilizing necessary resources for UNHCR, colleagues working in the sphere of Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) mainly focus on developing and strengthening long-term partnerships with companies, foundations and private philanthropists (‘PPH donors’). As part of a wider fundraising team, the primary role of PPH colleagues is to seek various forms of support from PPH donors: securing funding for UNHCR programmes and projects will be considered priority, but the work also includes leveraging the capacities of these partnerships beyond funding, in order to build long-lasting holistic partnerships bringing various forms of support to UNHCR and to persons of concern (POC), such as advocacy, visibility, expertise, innovation and public engagement.

Duties
– As delegated by the supervisor, support the outreach to and engagement of PPH donors, and all activities relevant for the acquisition and strengthening of relationships with them, depending on the local market and philanthropic landscape.
– Support donor cultivation and stewardship by drafting and/or adapting compelling proposals, reports, fact sheets and other materials targeting PPH donors, in close collaboration with PSP’s global teams.
– Contribute to the strategic development of UNHCR’s engagement with the private sector.
– Prepare the necessary research and materials for meetings with prospects and donor partners and follow up with supervisor and concerned staff on meeting outcomes and due tasks.
– Support the development of donor/partner recognition and acknowledgment tools for donor partners, including. providing support with video production, press releases / conferences, and social media visibility.
– Draft letters, project concept notes, proposals, and progress reports.
– Research, archive and maintain information on donor partners and new prospects, including keeping up to date biographical information, key philanthropic activities, up to date capital information, moves and actions plans (cultivation plans), tasks and events.
– Use Salesforce database to monitor PPH activity; and support the maintenance of up-to-date records of partnerships and relationships, including tracking income raised, keeping internal calendars and plans updated, and supporting on data entry and maintenance on Salesforce.
– Undertake ongoing research and data collection to identify new prospects, highlight potential priority prospects and thus build a prospect pipeline, and support programmes to inform and recruit prospects and supporters.
– Keep informed about the local fundraising and business environment, fundraising best practices, and about issues related to humanitarian and development work which might have an impact on PPH activities, and escalate to the supervisor if needed;
– Research and monitor opportunities, and build up a calendar of deadlines and criteria ensuring that all information is captured and shared with the PPH team so that opportunities can be leveraged.
– Assist with fundraising for emergencies by supporting the development of initiatives targeting PPH donors.
– Comply with UNHCR Due Diligence Procedures, help preparing compliance screening reports for submission to PSP’s global team.
– Support the consolidation of data and information for financial reports and presentations on income, expenditure and budgets, and similar reporting requirements.
– Support the development of private sector engagement activities and tools, including through legacies, cause-related marketing, employee engagement and other activities targeting different types of PPH donor audiences.
– Support the preparation of internal and external workshops, meetings and networking events which help the cultivation and stewardship of PPH donors, including overseeing logistical aspects; and, if required, liaise with PSP HQ to support the engagement of the market’s PPH partners and prospects at high-level events coordinated by HQ.
– As delegated, and in collaboration with Administrative colleagues, support PPH colleagues with procurement, administrative and travel matters.
– Support the successful organization of donor missions to Field Operations.
– Assist in the creation and dissemination of promotional materials for campaigns targeting PPH Donors to ensure compatibility, timing and best results.
– Support the engagement with intermediaries by undertaking research, consolidating information and bringing matters to the supervisor as needed.
If applicable, support on the development of marketing programmes to receive Gifts in Wills targeting major donors and High Net Worth Individuals (HNWI) audiences; and support plans to nurture such audiences into including UNHCR in their will

– Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility. Ensure decision making in risk based in the functional area of work. Raise risks, issues and concerns to a supervisor or to relevant functional colleague(s).

– Perform other related duties as required.

The PPH Associate position, based in Paris, offers a unique opportunity to work within the PSP Europe team dedicated to raise funds and establish partnerships for UNHCR with the private sector in Europe. This position will sit within UNHCR’s Private Partnerships and Philanthropy (PPH) team in France, which aims to raise funds from “PPH donors” in France to support UNHCR’s work.

Organizational context

The Private Sector Partnerships (PSP) Services work in different regions: Europe, MENA, Americas, Africa, and Asia, and further decentralizes at local levels.
The position will be part of UNHCR’s Private Sector Partnerships Unit, which sits within the Department of External Relations (DER) responsible for mobilizing resources to enable UNHCR’s refugee response programming around the world.

The position

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and results driven team player, who is able to work independently as well, with a strong interest in fundraising, to become a reliable asset to the UNHCR France operation within PSP Europe.
The incumbent will contribute to the prospection, implementation and cultivation of the strategic partnerships with foundations, philanthropists, trusts and corporates.

The PPH Associate will work under the supervision of the PPH lead and in close collaboration with regional and global teams. She / He is expected to work closely with PSP network in the region and in HQs and with UNHCR Country office in Paris.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the PSP lead, the PPH Associate will perform the following responsibilities:
• Increase PSP income through the development and cultivation of leadership giving donors in France;
• Manage corporate and foundation screening of any new partners wanting to enter into a relationship with UNHCR;
• Develop and maintain close relations with identified corporates in France;
• Maintain and manage a full prospect pipeline, including commissioning or performing prospect research as necessary and moving prospects along the donor development cycle using moves management;
• Communicate accurate and timely information on UNHCR’s programs and activities, in conformity with the organization’s financial needs and priorities, to prospective and current donors;
• Draft compelling proposals for submission to corporates, trusts, foundations and High Net Worth Individuals;
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting on implementation of funded projects, by obtaining and compiling information from relevant services within UNHCR (HQ PSP Thematic Unit, desks, and field offices);
• Develop appropriate solicitation, cultivation and stewardship materials;
• In co-operation with the other members of PSP, PI and External Relations Section, develop and support activities/events within the framework of PSP projects with supporters and partners that will promote refugees and UNHCR’s visibility and awareness in France and Monaco;
• Serve as liaison and focal point for all communication and issues concerning the corporate sector and foundations in France and advise the supervisor;
• Assist the global PSP team in the adaptation, testing and/or development of activities and tools that support private sector fund raising efforts, including online and direct marketing activities in the future;
• Represent UNHCR/PSP France in meetings with prospective and current partners to promote an accurate understanding of UNHCR’s work and its financial and other needs;
• Develop initiatives with corporates to: obtain financial support for projects; develop stand-by emergency agreements for mobilizing support, both technical and financial; and encourage employee-giving and cause-related marketing as appropriate;
• Ensure that the proper reporting framework is in place to measure and monitor progress and provide regular reports and analysis on the progress of PPH donations and pledges;
• Provide French perspective and plan for PPH activities;
• Liaise with the PSP Officer / PPH lead on any fundraising opportunity that could be undertaken by the PSP France;
• Manage Senior Fundraising Assistant PPH;
• Perform any other tasks as required.

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
The ideal candidate will be required to have:

• Completion of secondary education (high school diploma) preferably with UNESCO accredited university degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, International Relations, Communications or other related field;
• Minimum 3 years of previous job experience with secondary education / high school or minimum 2 years of previous job experience with Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree;
• Relevant work experience with private sector fundraising experience with corporates, major donors or foundations in a not-for-profit organization or an international organization or a marketing/fundraising consultancy firm;
• Proven ability to deal with multiple tasks in a courteous and service oriented manner in a demanding working condition that often functions on short-term deadlines.
• Experience in managing and prospecting corporates, major donors or HNWI accounts.
• Experience in marketing or communication/advocacy.
• Good knowledge of the French private sector fundraising environment
• Excellent analytical skills and strong communication and presentation skills (both verbal and written).
• A good communicator with interpersonal skills to deal with persons of different cultural and educational backgrounds.
• Excellent computer skills with Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
• Proven experience in preparing and developing plans for annual income growth and to reach targets
• Fluency in French and English are essential.
• Working experience with an INGO in the humanitarian field is an asset.
• A flexible and outgoing team player with service oriented attitudes.
• Knowledge of UNHCR programmes and activities, particularly at field level would be an asset.

Location

The successful candidate will be based with the team in UNHCR’s office in Paris, France.

Conditions

The position is associated with a Temporary contract, valid for 12 months, with possibility of renewal and/or conversion into a Fixed-term contract. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 9 AM to 6 PM, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week).
The salary is in line with the local UN GS Salary scale.
