JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you motivated to make a difference and eager to gain hands-on experience with one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs? Do you have a passion for effective communication, content creation, and contributing to furthering the localization agenda? Then, join us in the Localization Unit as our Communications Intern for Spring 2025 and help us make a real impact!

Who are we?

The Localization Unit is a dedicated team within the ‘Strategy, Program, and Learning Department’ at DRC’s Headquarters in Copenhagen. The unit drives the development and consolidation of DRC’s position and strategic direction on the localization agenda, and leads cross-organizational coordination to develop tools, policies, and processes that support DRC’s localization goals.

About the internship

As our new intern in the Localization Unit, you will contribute to advancing DRC’s localization agenda. You will assist in developing and disseminating internal communications, creating engaging content for different platforms and target groups, and supporting the development of learning materials. Throughout your internship, you will gain practical experience working for an international NGO and collaborating with colleagues from around the world.

You will work closely with the Localization Support Coordinator and other colleagues across the organization. Your daily tasks may include:

Internal communication

  • Assist in developing internal newsletters, reports and other documents.
  • Communicate with field offices to gather stories, interviews and photographs for internal (and external) communication.
  • Contribute to the creation of a Localization Catalogue by drafting case stories that highlight DRC’s approaches to localization.
  • Support the development and maintenance of content and resources on our intranet (based on MS SharePoint).

Content creation

  • Help design fact sheets, infographics, and other communication materials for both online and offline use, utilizing tools like InDesign and Canva, while ensuring adherence to DRC’s corporate identity.
  • Support the creation of engaging content, such as videos, graphics, and interactive materials, for communication pieces and learning resources.

Learning and capacity development

  • Contribute to research and the development of case studies and learning briefs, in collaboration with colleagues from our Regional and Country Offices.
  • Support in the organization of workshops, trainings and webinars.

Administrative support

  • Help with ad hoc administrative tasks as needed.

We offer flexibility in the type of tasks, so you also have the possibility to influence the tasks, subject to what is relevant for your study program.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to be currently enrolled in a master’s program in Communication Studies, Multimedia Design and Communications, PR, Journalism, or a related field, with a strong interest or experience in the humanitarian sector.

We also encourage applications from students pursuing graduate degrees in Development Studies, Political Science, International Relations, or other relevant social sciences, especially if you have hands-on experience in communication, content creation, visual design, or video editing.

We value diverse perspectives and skills, and we believe your academic background and practical experience will bring valuable contributions to our dynamic team.

All employees and interns at DRC should master DRC’s core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for Excellence, and Demonstrating Integrity.

Furthermore, we also expect you to:

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be a team player, but also able to work independently.
  • Pay attention to detail and strive to get the job done.
  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation in content creation and problem-solving.
  • Have a strong desire to gain hands-on experience in the humanitarian sector.
  • Be fluent in spoken and written English. Proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is an asset.
  • Have experience in graphic design, video production, or digital content creation (an asset).

It is a requirement that you are enrolled in a university in order to be considered for the internship.

We offer

Contract length: 4-6 months subject to study requirements and further dialogue.

Workplace: DRC Headquarters located in Borgergade 10, Copenhagen.

Start date: End of January / beginning of February. We can be flexible on the start date.
