With more than 20 years of experience in the country, UNOPS Afghanistan focuses on providing maximum support to the people of Afghanistan through the delivery of projects and services that improve the lives of people in need. The UNOPS Afghanistan Country Office (AFCO) serves as an organizational mechanism to deliver a range of projects for which UNOPS has been designated as the implementation agency. At present, UNOPS AFCO activities cover a range of sectors including humanitarian, basic human needs, cash for work, infrastructure, development, procurement and HR services.

The functional objective of UNOPS AFCO is to contribute to improving the lives of girls, boys, men and women living in Afghanistan. The aim of UNOPS AFCO is to provide efficient and cost-effective implementation services on behalf of all our partners to support the humanitarian response and development of the country. UNOPS AFCO’s mission is to exceed the expectations of all stakeholders in the delivery of AFCO services, at all times, in all places, in all circumstances, in order to improve the lives of Afghans in need.

 

 

Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Under the direct supervision of the ICT Officer who reports to the Head of Support Services, and The ICT Intern will have an exposure to learning opportunities on the below key ICT functions.

  1. ICT management and administration
  • Participate in the maintenance of inventory of all computer, telecommunication equipment, I/O devices and software existent in the office ensuring compliance with registration and upgrades.
  • Support in the installation, testing and maintenance of all ICT hardware equipment and acquisition of hardware supplies.
  • Perform technical functions, including changing of hardware electronic components (disks, memories, network wiring, power sources, etc.) and routine repairs.
  • Install commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades
  • Involve in the maintenance of video conference applications and Google meet.
  1. ICT helpdesk support
  • Assist in monitoring the use of 4G facilities and prepaid voice credits
  • Support ICT teams during the physical inspection of ICT equipment
  • Support the monitoring and maintenance of proper data backups of for business continuity
  • Assisting ICT team in designing and updating network diagram, network map and file system.
  • Interacts with local repair suppliers/workshops facilities for items under warranty.
  1. Support to knowledge building and knowledge sharing
  • Staff support on hardware familiarization and maintenance; software applications, file management/maintenance and LAN/WAN systems;
  • Lessons learnt and best practices in ICT

 

IV. Impact of Results
The internship is a valuable learning and working opportunity designed for fresh graduates. The intern will assist the ICT officer in efficiently and effectively managing ICT and providing support to AFCO and project offices. This role will enable the ICT intern to gain practical experience and develop his/her career by learning and utilizing new ICT tools and services.

Terms and Conditions

  • For staff positions only, UNOPS reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post.
  • For retainer contracts, you must complete a few mandatory courses ( they take around 4 hours to complete) in your own time, before providing services to UNOPS. Refreshers or new mandatory courses may be required during your contract. Please note that you will not receive any compensation for taking courses and refreshers.
