JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Overview:

The Protection from Violence Assistant (Case Management) will be mainly responsible to identify cases, work closely with adults at high risk of harm and provide them case management services according to standardized procedures and protocols. She/he will work in the field and receive and visit cases referred to them, assess their needs and provide them with support as per the action plan developed, ensuring regular follow up. The assistant will also be responsible to coordinate with service providers to ensure support the cases.  The assistant will be working closely with the Protection from Violence Coordinator or PM.

Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities:

  • Strong understanding of humanitarian response architecture, particularly in terms of emergency response and humanitarian protection
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management.
  • Ensure confidentiality and proper filing of relevant documents.
  • Knowledge of human rights and protection with a focus on vulnerable individuals
  • Good understanding of risks, stakeholders, and dynamics relevant to humanitarian protection of vulnerable displaced persons in Afghanistan
  • Good understanding of the gender dynamics at play and the way it requires adaptation.
  • Knowledge and prior working experience in southern provinces
  • Demonstrated understanding of working with vulnerable adults

Specific responsibilities:

  • Visit the community on daily basis to meet the community committee and other families in the community and collect information.
  • Identify the most venerable who have faced sudden shocks and are eligible cases for the Case Management.
  • Support implementation of protection monitoring and protection case management activities.
  • Lead the team in daily protection case management activities such as identification of vulnerable people, provision of services to beneficiaries, and referral process
  • Provide guidance and supervision to the Protection Case Management Technical Assistants to ensure that activities are carried out in accordance with relevant standards, guidelines and SOPs.
  • Organize regular case conferencing with the Protection from Violence Specialist and Coordinator to discuss and agree on the direction cases should take.
  • Regularly accompany the team on the field visits to provide support and guidance and to monitor quality of case management activities.
  • Ensure that service mapping is regularly updated in collaboration with CCR team, and it is well explained to the staff.
  • Liaise with information management staff and ensure keeping accurate management of data records and databases/trackers, M&E matrix.
  • Produce case management report monthly.
  • Support protection Team leader and Protection Coordinator in designing and delivering training to the staff to ensure that they are able to carry out proper protection case management activities.
  • Ensure that all data and information pertaining to protection monitoring are handled in strict confidence, and in line with applicable data protection and information sharing protocols.
  • Attending ad-hoc internal meeting or external meeting/training to represent the protection team and present as necessaryMake sure distribution of the cash grants are being processed as per beneficiary’s preference.
  • Data management and recording keeping maintaining confidentiality;
  • Participate in data collection processes including surveys, assessments, and studies where necessary.
  • Support in the contextualization and drafting of programmatic documents and analysis;
  • Working with community structures—NRC committees, other NGO committees, and existing community structures—on protection risk reduction plans and protection risk identification through mentorship and core CSP activities
  • Awareness and training for the staff on the service mapping and referral pathways
  • Promote good relationship with the site service providers
  • Any other responsibilities tasked by supervisor

Generic professional competencies: 

  • Completed  Bachelor of Social Science, Social Work, Journalism, or Humanities
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Good knowledge in Microsoft Office
  • Fluency in local languages both written and verbal
  • Basic knowledge of English Language and local languages Pashto and Dari
  • Ability to work additional hours if and when required
  • Ability to commence work immediately
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook

Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: 

  • At least 1 to 3 years’ previous humanitarian experience with a satisfactory performance in the same or similar functional area. Specialties in cash programming, protection, social cohesion, International Humanitarian Law, negotiations, conflict resolution, and/or mediation preferred
  • At least two years working experience of implementing case management, individualized assistance preferably in humanitarian context with INGOs and or other international implementing partners.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience.
  • Working knowledge of the Humanitarian Principles and Protection Principles.
  • Proficient computer skills; especially being able to deal with and enter the data in excel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to show empathy towards the beneficiaries and having great listening skills.
  • And ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
