Result of Service
The consultant will be responsible for creating cutting-edge data visualizations and infographics for a two-day meeting in Geneva, as well as for a background paper generated from a year-long project examining the racialized and intersectional impact of securitization. The consultant will use the data gathered over the course of the project, in close collaboration with the research team to ensure visual clarity and effectiveness in the presentation of findings.

One month in 2024 with possibility of extension up to 12 months
Duties and Responsibilities
The consultant will work in close coordination with the broader project team, as well as relevant colleagues within the Anti-Racial Discrimination Section (ARDS) and report to the project lead, in addition to the Chief of ARDS. The consultant will: • Participate in initial consultations and indicator development and provide constructive input to and feedback on the methodology for collecting data and analysis of data, to ensure that the data gathered and analysed can be effectively visualised. • Assist the team in gathering, organizing, and analysing quantitative and qualitative project data. • Create data visualisations and infographics that clearly communicate the project’s findings. • Ensure that the visualisations capture key trends, particularly with regard to the racialized, gendered and intersectional impacts of the securitisation of migration, health, environment, climate change, and other relevant areas, and illustrate the intersectionality of race, gender and religion, and other grounds of discrimination. • Deliver visualisations for inclusion in the background paper and respective presentations. • Provide suggestions for future steps, including the potential development of interactive data visualisations, an online interactive data tool, and dynamic data stories for potential future phases (outside the scope of this consultancy). The work of this home-based consultancy entails two months from wherever the consultant is located, which can be completed across a twelve-month period, when required by the project. It includes travel to Geneva for a two-day expert meeting, which will be held in person in Geneva, in 2025.
Qualifications/special skills
• Degree in psychology, social sciences, or related fields; as well as specialised training in data management and data visualisations. • Minimum of five years advanced training and experience in using the latest data visualisation tools, such as Tableau, Flourish, and Power BI. • Experience in gathering, analyzing, and visualizing quantitative and qualitative data. • Specialized knowledge: expertise in data visualisation, infographic design, and familiarity with qualitative and quantitative social science research methods, especially relating to human rights. • Data design skills: strong abilities in creating clear, engaging, and effective visual representations of social science datasets. • Collaboration and teamwork: excellent collaboration skills, with the capacity to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams. • Technical proficiency: advanced training and experience in using the latest data visualisation tools, such as Tableau, Flourish, and Power BI. • Experience in gathering, analyzing, and visualizing quantitative and qualitative data. • Specialized knowledge: expertise in data visualisation, infographic design, and familiarity with qualitative and quantitative social science research methods, especially relating to human rights. • Data design skills: strong abilities in creating clear, engaging, and effective visual representations of social science datasets. • Collaboration and teamwork: excellent collaboration skills, with the capacity to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
