Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs. This Internship is located in the Digital Technologies Support Unit (DTSU) within the Infrastructure and Operations Section (IOS) under the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) at UNGSC in Valencia (Spain). The internship is for six (6) months. Two (2) posts are available. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Responsibilities. Our interns work as full members of our team, pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in UNGSC, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. The Intern will work under the direct guidance of the Chief Digital Technologies Support Unit (DTSU), and Chief Infrastructure and Operations Section (IOS) and will be responsible for the following duties: • Supports Internet of Things (IoT) projects, Smart Camp (city) initiatives, 3D and Additive Printing technologies. • Contributes implementing and managing Information and Communications Technology (ICT) modules and centralized solutions. • Contributes to projects and systems integrating advanced technologies for enhanced efficiency and innovation. • Participates in the Validation process and document lifecycle, including network, meters, sensors, printers, and scanners installation/operational procedures. • Supports and provides feedback to the solutions design specification creation and implementation across multiple projects of varying scope. • Supports resourcing estimates and technical configurations of client quotations to the Unit Development Team. • Under the supervision of the Unit Chief or other senior staff, coordinates work with stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and contractors. • Supports the development Team, Architect, Engineers, System Analysts and Software Engineers (UNGSC) and provide the necessary support to teams on missions (customer) sites, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within scope. • Supports clients to understand, agree on, and implement technical requirements with the team. • Assists in managing the team’s tasks within implementation and development projects. • May receive tasks, duties, technical guidance or learning objectives from the Chief of the Unit and/or other senior staff in the unit. • Helps developing and improving Integration’s internal processes and management system by reporting corrective actions, updates, and improvement ideas. • Other duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). The field of studies must be closely related to the type of Internship you are applying for, such as electrical or mechanical engineering, data management or information science, technology or information systems, cybersecurity. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work.experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Candidate must possess computer literacy in standard software applications such as Office 365 particularly MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, SharePoint. Candidate must have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Knowledge and understanding of the following is desirable: – IoT technologies, such as edge computing, SQL databases, Aveva/PI systems, LoRaWAN, IoT protocols, or programmable logic controller. – 3D and additive printing solutions and best practices. Technical writing skills for creating installation, configuration, and troubleshooting guides are desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this Internship, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
