JOB DESCRIPTION

DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Research Team Leader.

The overall purpose of the role:

The Research Team Leader has overall responsibility for ensuring high quality of the refugee-driven research in Uganda and be a key contributor to the data analysis. The TL is also expected to contribute to the field research him/herself some 20% of the time. The role contributes to the development of project strategies, which are translated into action plans and day-to-day tasks. The role provides support and/or technical guidance to the research team in the country while overseeing daily research activities. The research team leader will also contribute to writing research reports for the project

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Provide technical and programmatic leadership for field assistants on research
  • Author analytical products including conference papers, briefs and report (sections) for publication, technically supervised by the research lead (HQ)
  • Present research results for relevant local, national and global stakeholders
  • Attend and eventually co-lead onboarding and comprehensive training in anthropological methodology
  • Ensuring quality of the planning, implementation and follow-up of activities
  • Support and coordinate setup of trainings and events in the field.
  • Attend bi-monthly planning/status meetings within country manager (and PM online)
  • Provide contributions to progress reports, and other donor reports and data dissemination products
  • Organize and facilitate capacity building plan to Research Assistants based on identified needs
  • Take responsibility of arranging all logistics and procurement relating to the annual events, meetings and trainings.
  • In collaboration with the finance officer, monitor financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow ups.
  • Build strong collaboration with DRC Administration, Logistics, and Finance Departments and the Project Manager to ensure cross team collaboration.
  • Maintain/establish rapport with government authorities, UN agencies, international and local NGOs as required.
  • Accountable for people management of the Field Assistants in line with DRC’s performance management system
  • Accountable for ensuring that agreed work plans and tasks set by technical management implemented on time
  • Support recruitment processes
  • Support donor visits to the field
  • Uphold DRC’s code of conduct, Values, and principles of accountability.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have outstanding relationship management and communication skills, Ability to establish collaborative working relationships. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required

  • Master’s degree in anthropology or a closely related field
  • Experience with ethnographic research methodology and interview and implementing research under international research ethics standards
  • Experience in authoring published research products of high standard and taking ownership of the writing process
  • Experience disseminating research and being comfortable disseminating complex findings for large crowds.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in working with refugees, vulnerable communities and project management and preferably ethnographic research.
  • Previous staff management experience
  • Experience living and working in Rhino Camp/ similar setting
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of protection, conflict sensitivity and peacebuilding
  • Strong commitment to gender equality
  • Experience of working with local or national Non‐Governmental organizations.
  • Good communication skills and ability to conduct training and awareness.
  • High level competences in; Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, knowledge of KOBO preferred
  • Good organizational skills.

Languages: (indicate fluency level in your CV)

  • Full professional proficiency in English
  • Full proficiency in Juba Arabic preferred
  • Basic level of one or multiple common languages spoken in South Sudan (Bari, Dinka, Nuer)

Desirable

PhD Degree in anthropology or a closely related field
