The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Strategy Department (STR) – Financial Strategy and Analytics Division at its headquarters in Luxembourg, several Data Analysts / Scientists*. This is a fulltime position (travel required) at grade 4/5 for which the EIF offers a permanent contract.

Purpose

Part of the EIB Group, the mission of the European Investment Fund (EIF) is to improve access to finance for SMEs and small mid-caps in Europe. We do this by supporting emerging and established fund managers with equity investments and by designing debt financing instruments that share the risk taken by financial institutions when they lend to or invest in small businesses. We bring this support closer to entrepreneurs through our extensive network of partners and financial intermediaries in all EU Member States and associated countries.

The Strategy Department within the Finance and Strategy Office (“FSO”) is responsible for supporting the strategic direction of the EIF from medium and long-term perspective by providing Executive and Senior Management with relevant support and strategic orientations & priorities that guide future operational activities of the Fund. Furthermore, the Strategy function regularly provides strategic analysis for ongoing projects and activities of the EIF to assess their fit to the ongoing strategy and to enable achievement of the EIB’s objectives.

Operating network

The successful candidate(s) will report to the Head of the Analytical Center of Expertise Unit within the Financial Strategy and Analytics Division.

They will contribute to the development and implementation of the Analytical Center of Expertise for the Strategy department. They will primarily be responsible for nurturing and maintaining high-relevance data science expert services for EIF Finance and Strategy Office and fostering a data analysis mindset across EIF Finance and Strategy Office. They will support data driven strategic decision-making within the EIF, participate in projects of the Strategy department and engage in relevant EIF projects. They will collaborate closely with the Head of Unit and other team members and will be in constant contact with other relevant EIF services and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

At a level commensurate with your experience and seniority, you will:

  • Serve as one of the department’s experts in data science and analytics. Provide expertise in developing new analytical tools, models, and frameworks for the Strategy and Finance Office.
  • Foster a data and analytical culture within the Strategy and Finance office, ensuring proper coaching and assistance on data analytics matters, and providing guidance on the independent use of models and analytical tools developed by the unit.
  • Ensure the availability and accessibility of necessary data and analysis: act as a bridge between business expertise, innovative analytical tools, and visualization techniques.
  • Propose and develop new methods to identify, organize, and extract information for analytical purposes.
  • Participate in projects of the Strategy Department and/or contribute a strategic data analytical perspective in EIF projects assigned.

Qualifications

  • University degree, preferably at postgraduate level, in Economics, Finance, Accounting or related subjects; Postgraduate degrees and/or additional professional qualifications (e.g. CFA, ACCA) would be considered an asset;
  • At least three (3) and no more than five (5) years of post-graduation (after having obtained your initial university diploma) relevant professional experience at the same level of responsibility in Banking/Asset Management, Reporting, Quantitative Analysis, Audit, Fund Administration, Finance or related area, preferably with exposure to Private Equity or Guarantees/Securitization assets;

     

  • Proven knowledge of software tools (e.g. Excel, Business Objects, Tableau, etc.) and programming languages (e.g. SAS, R, Python, VBA etc.) typically used in the context of data analysis and/or data science activities;
  • Excellent knowledge of English, both oral and written. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
