About this position
We are looking for a highly dynamic, strategic, people leader as Chief of the Health, Nutrition and Population (HNP) Division. As Chief of the HNP Division, you will lead, with high-quality standards, the design, preparation, and execution of loans and technical assistance operations, policy dialogues, institutional capacity-building activities, and economic and sector work on health, nutrition and population issues, incorporating cross-cutting themes such as gender and diversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, institutional capacity and rule of law.
The Health, Nutrition and Population Division (HNP) is part of the Social Sector (SCL) Department. The SCL team is responsible for formulating public policy solutions to reduce poverty, improve investments in education, skill development, and health, strengthen social protection and the functioning of labor markets, advance gender equality and the inclusion of diverse population groups across sectors and countries, and promote the socio-economic integration of migrants and the development of migrants’ host communities.
What you’ll do:
Lead the preparation and execution of high-quality loans and technical assistance operations, policy dialogues, and institutional capacity-building activities on health, nutrition, and population issues, on schedule and on budget, incorporating cross-cutting themes such as gender and diversity, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and institutional capacity and rule of law, focusing on the achievement of development impact.
Lead the generation and dissemination of cutting-edge knowledge through rigorous applied economic and sector research on health, nutrition, and population issues in coordination with other business units at IDB Group as well as external leading institutions.
Advise Management on and lead the development of strategies, policies, and guidelines for the IDB Group on health, nutrition, and population issues, in collaboration with IDB Lab and IDB Invest, adapting to the specific needs of the different borrowing member countries.
Lead, manage, mentor, and assess the Division’s personnel, providing goals and expectations, feedback, and technical guidance to optimize performance. Ensure that workplace practices and behaviors comply with IDB’s policies related to ethics and respect in the workplace.
Focus on continuous improvement and developing the capability to do business better.
Align the Division’s work plans with the broader goals and strategies of the IDB Group, translate these plans into a clear set of objectives, lead annual resource planning for the Division, and align resources to deliver against these plans
Identify and promote innovative solutions to address specific sector challenges, building strong relationships with IDB Lab and IDB Invest as well as with external partners.
Develop and manage strategic partnerships with relevant institutions, including governments, international organizations, regional agencies, the academic community, as well as civil society and private sector entities, to secure support for significant business initiatives.
What you’ll need
Education: Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in one of the following areas: Economics, Health Economics, Public Health, Public Policy and Administration, or related fields relevant to the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: At least 10 years of proven experience related to the key responsibilities of the position. Track record of handling high-performance teams. Experience with financial instruments and knowledge of one or more areas under the purview of the Division.
Languages: Proficiency in English is required and in Spanish desired. Additional knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.

Requirements
Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.

Type of contract and duration
International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
