Operations Support:
- Under the supervision of the Deputy Regional Director for Operations, provide advice and support on WFP’s operations across the Region:
- Reputation Risk management: Screen external reporting products, CSPs, and other documents as required, providing analysis and research on the emerging political, social, and economic situation in the region and filtering for politically sensitive issues and escalating as appropriate.
- Ensure WFP’s position for external audiences is calibrated in line with UN stances, terminology, and WFP’s organizational principles. Engage directly with CO leadership and HQ as required including drafting Note Verbales for Ambassadors/ HQ Permanent Representatives.
- Continuity for small Country Offices Support RBC management to ensure that RBC priorities are reflected in CO strategies, including review of key reporting products to ensure quality of data, and consistency across past products and interagency stances as appropriate.
Regional Emergency Support
- Coordinate collation/ dissemination of scheduled and ad-hoc information products, reports, meeting minutes, and information requests related to corporate-scale emergencies.
- Maintain visibility over and as necessary recommend changes to regional coordination, information management, and dissemination systems, practices, and products.
- Ensure information quality control: supporting effective communications flow across the chain of command including RB/ CO / HQ.
- Support the Deputy Regional Director for Operations’ engagement in Regional Emergency Responses and country office scale-up. Manage briefs, draft talking points, and background documents for the DRD as required consolidating inputs from Emergencies, Partnerships, OIM, and other teams as required.
- Coordinate key RBC Operational Heads of Units ad-hoc outputs for RBC and WFP management, such as funding strategies, donor engagements, supply chain overviews, media messages, and other products as required.
- Monitor the main success indicators for WFP emergency operations in the region, through situation reports, dashboards, and pipeline reports and highlight issues for RBC management’s attention as required.
Country Office Support
- Ensure that key Operations priorities are reflected in organizational redesign or transformation activities.
- Convene task force meetings, summarize key issues for RBC management, and draft external-facing updates as required.
Knowledge and skills:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret large amounts of information, drawing out the key messages.
- Demonstrated application and synthesis of acquired knowledge in particular in the MENA regional context.
- Excellent soft skills including diplomacy and the ability to navigate sensitive or politicized topics tactfully.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, able to clearly articulate insights to senior stakeholders in and outside of WFP.
- Strong coordination and organizational skills, able to manage multiple diverse stakeholders around a common goal.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Advanced University degree in International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or training/courses.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience with a Master, or 6 years experience with a Bachelor’s degree
- Strong experience in the RBC region with work across several WFP offices.
- Has gained direct experience with different programme approaches.
- Strong coordination experience including with stakeholders external to WFP.
- Has gained direct experience working with senior UN leadership.
- Has worked in HQ or a Regional Bureau.
- Has worked on research and data collection projects related to WFP’s operations.
- Experience supporting operations in a similar international context with direct exposure to the most senior layers in the organization is preferred.
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language and Fluency (level C) in Arabic.
