The New York Portfolios Office (NYPO) supports the United Nations Secretariat, as well as other New York-based United Nations organizations, bilateral and multilateral partners in the delivery of UNOPS mandate in project management, infrastructure management, and procurement management.

The Sustainable Development Cluster (SDC) supports diverse partners with their Peacebuilding, humanitarian and development operations. It was formed by combining the following portfolios: Grants Management Services (GMS), UN Technology Support Services (UNTSS), Development and Special Initiatives Portfolio (DSIP). It provides Services to partners’ programmes that are designed, structured, and managed with a global perspective and primarily serving partners that are headquartered in New York. The SDC has a footprint of approximately 125 countries.

Background Information – Job-specific

The Department of Operational Support (DOS) is responsible for the delivery and maintenance of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in support of operational requirements of peacekeeping missions as well as special political missions (hereinafter “field missions”). DOS is also responsible for the delivery and maintenance of the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies (SGITT) in support of the operational requirements of Peacekeeping Missions, Special Political Missions, as well as DPO and DOS at Headquarters.

The SGITT at the UNGSC provides a critical role as the resilient operational hub for the support and delivery of technology services and solutions to field operations and a broad range of Secretariat and United Nations system clients. As a unified, singular service provider, SGITT provides reliable, resilient and innovative geospatial, communications and information technology services, including centralized connectivity, hosting and monitoring support, ensuring that staff members in field missions and at Headquarters have access to critical enterprise systems

The Digital Solutions Support Unit’s mandate is to provide Information Technology Desktop support to the United Nations ICT Facility (UNICTF) Valencia and UNGSC in Brindisi, within the UN Global Service Centre (UNGSC) through a high level specialized, professional, and operational workforce. The units service operations are collocated with, and in support of the global ICT services operations for the UN secretariat, agencies, funds, and programs.

UNOPS has signed a financial agreement which covers the provision of Technical Support for Digital Solutions Support, to the Service for Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies in the Global Service Centre, Valencia-Brindisi (SGITT/GSC).

Under the overall admin supervision of UNOPS Programme Manager, the incumbent is expected to prepare eLearning, training, promotional and outreach materials and videos supporting utilization and uptake of SGITT digital technology programmes, projects and services.

This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for the United Nations Secretariat.

Summary of key functions and duties:

1. Technical Writing and Editing
2. Develop Training content
3. Knowledge Management

The main responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:

1. Technical Writing and Editing :

  • Collaborate with the project team, incorporating feedback and revisions to ensure a high-quality documents.
  • Prepare and draft internal communication materials to promote the launch of technology products;
  • Produce high-quality, well written, technical content, in English, tailored to educate non-technical audience on new Technologies;
  • Proof-read and enhance project content, to improve the overall writing style;
  • Introduce a level of consistency, clarity, and impact to a large repository of text-based training materials.

2. Develop Training content:

  • Plan and create training curriculum for training projects, based on training requirements, learning objectives within the estimated project completion;
  • Simply training instruction in all training material, to ensure that content is created on time, and easily understood by learners;
  • Propose and develop several branding proposals and graphics for the training content, to align content with business needs;
  • Create graphic templates to ensure that look and feel of the training content aligns with the product branding;
  • Prepare training content to be reviewed by Subject matter experts;

3. Knowledge Management:

  • Develop documentation and any other pertinent material as requested;
  • Maintain knowledge base for all training related related issues;
  • Assist project teams in developing material.

4. Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Impact of Results

The result of work of the ICT Associate – eLearning impacts on directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of the Section as well as the performance of the services implemented. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.

Education:

  • Secondary school diploma (or high school equivalent) and six (6) years of relevant experience are required OR
  • A first-level university degree (undergraduate, Bachelor, or equivalent) with two (2) years of relevant experience, will be considered an asset.
Experience:

Required experience:

  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in the field of Capacity Building, eLearning, or related areas.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in an international / multicultural organization in the field of technical writing, graphic design or other related fields.
  • A minimum of one (1) professional working experience on Photoshop and Illustrator.

Desirable: (The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply)

  • Knowledge of MS Office and Help authoring tools

Language Requirements:

  • For this position, fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required;
  • A working knowledge of French is desirable
