Background:

NRC has been active in Somalia since 2004 with four area offices in Kismayu, Mogadishu, Garowe and Hargeisa, providing protection and humanitarian assistance to refugees, internally displaced persons and returnees in Somaliland, Puntland, South Central and Jubbaland regions. NRC offers a comprehensive response for returnees and IDPs of high need, addressing their food security, livelihood, shelter, education, ICLA, and water, hygiene and sanitation needs and also responding to emergencies through NRC’s five core competences: Shelter, Education, Food Security and Livelihoods, WASH and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA).

Responsibilitie

Site Engineer undertakes the primary responsibility of providing daily monitoring and supervision of feeder road rehabilitation and construction of water catchment in Mudug region. This role involves overseeing every aspect of the construction process, ensuring strict adherence to technical specifications, safety standards, and project timelines. In addition to overseeing the technical work, the engineer will provide daily progress reports, progress photos and challenges for daily and weekly updates.

  • Oversee the daily operations of the construction work
  • Ensure all activities comply with project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct daily site inspections to monitor progress of quality and quantity of work.
  • Coordinate with contractors, ensuring adherence to project schedules and standards.
  • Prepare and submit daily progress reports detailing progress activities, challenges encountered, and action points
  • Maintain accurate records of materials.
  • Assessing ground conditions and identifying obstacles in the site
  • Monitoring progress and evaluating performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Identifying and report risk during the construction and excavation

Context/specific skills, knowledge and experience   

  • Diploma in civil, hydrogeology, geology, Ground Water, or a related field.
  • Previous experience from working in the context of the position.
  • Perouse relevant work experience

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
