ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

FHI 360’s Crisis Response team has been responding to the humanitarian emergency in Northern Ethiopia through an integrated health, nutrition, WASH, and Protection project to meet the critical needs of the conflict-affected population. FHI 360 aims to expand its reach to the Somali Region in Eastern Ethiopia to meet the immediate needs of the drought-affected population and will be implementing integrated humanitarian programming with the Ethiopia-based national organization, Pastoralist Concern (PC).

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the health and nutrition Officer, the Health and Nutrition Assistant is responsible for supporting all start-up nutrition activities in FHI 360 program implementation areas. They will be responsible for providing technical guidance to ensure that program implementation adheres to appropriate international technical standards and guidelines are technically sound. They will provide anthropometric assessment, recording, referral and linking clients to respective service points and shall maintain environment-friendly working space hence adhering to infection control and prevention practices. They will provide nutrition services including but not limited to counseling, linkage and preparing treatment for the clients.

Accountabilities:

  • Work closely with the health and nutrition Officer to achieve program objectives and targets effectively and efficiently.
  • Collects and coordinates data needed by nutrition staff.
  • Participating in research activities.
  • Will be supporting the admissions of severe malnutrition cases following properly laid down standards. Prepare and feed severely malnourished patients under observation in the inpatient wards.
  • Will be responsible for case management of malnutrition patients on follow-ups and those on ward and ensure that all routine medications are administered appropriately.
  • To counsel and advise in-patients/follow-ups/parents/guardians on proper care and nutrition at home.
  • To carry out home visits as a follow up on discharged patients to ensure adherence of the clients on the nutrition programs.
  • Support the EPI department through carrying out routine growth monitoring activities and ensuring that all malnourished children have child health cards
  • Ensure that all the stored food supplements are safe and free from contamination and theft and the store is clean all the time.
  • Ensure the kitchen for preparation of therapeutic milk for severely malnourished children and the surrounding environment is clean, hygienic and well maintained.
  • Prepare and submit the nutrition reports for both the in-patients and out-patients as guided by the nutrition and health officer.
  • Reviews and verifies information to ensure compliance and accuracy of source documents, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains records and data utilizing automated systems for tracking protocols, agreements, training materials, data sets and final reports.
  • Imparting knowledge and skills to staff.
  • Prepares training and training materials for field site locations.
  • Provide continuous field-based assistance to all mobile medical units and static facilities.
  • Assist in collecting and compiling project data regularly including case studies, success stories and photographs of facilities.
  • Provide regular updates on the inventory of medical and non-medical items supported by the project.
  • Help improve the quality of PHC services delivered at supported facilities and continuous monitoring.
  • Any other tasks assigned.

Programmatic Administration:

  • Support travel activities for staff and consultants including preparation of expense authorizations, obtaining client travel approval, working with the Travel Department to obtain air tickets and advances, and supporting travel expense reporting when required.
  • Assist in the collection of information for use in reports and formats report drafts.
  • Maintain distribution list for project reports.
  • Send reminders to keep the team on track with reporting deadlines.
  • Serve as a backup to others at the same level.
  • Set up document management sites (file share sites).
  • Maintain, copy, and coordinate storage and archiving of files.

Technical Requirements:

  • Assist in technical data collection, review and basic analysis.
  • Provides basic technical support in the development and dissemination of tools, materials, reports, papers, and interventions for projects.
  • Under supervision conduct searches of published literature, mobile software sites, blogs, on evolving issues.
  • Provides technical administrative support to work plan preparation and finalization.
  • Operational Support (Security, IT, HR, etc.):
  • Post job descriptions.
  • Arrange interviews.
  • Set up technology for meetings.
  • Troubleshoots equipment issues.
  • Keep and update the list of contacts.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree related to health or nutrition or a Related Field.

Experience:

  • Typically requires at least 3 years of relevant administrative experience supporting projects and/or a technical practice area.
  • Prior experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred.
  • Prior experience using Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
