ICES Secretariat is seeking applications for the full-time role of Digital Librarian. You will be responsible for maintaining and developing ICES library and publications database, overseeing the digitization and cataloguing of ICES historical publication archives, reporting on readership and library usage, collaborating in bibliometric studies, and ensuring publication best practices and the integrity of our publications record.
You will liaise with external partners and keep up to date with changes, challenges, and opportunities related to our publication databases. The role also involves training and assisting library users and troubleshooting issues.
We offer a job in the heart of Copenhagen where you’ll join a close-knit Communications and Publications team and have lots of opportunity for sparring and skill development. Our wider Secretariat is made up of approximately 75 staff members who represent over 30 different nationalities, and our meeting facilities are regularly full of visiting experts from our 20 member counties and beyond.
Responsibilities
Working in close collaboration with the Communications and Publications team, your main work tasks will include:
- Maintaining and developing ICES library and publications database.
- Liaising with our library platform provider and other external partners, keeping track of platform updates and opportunities, and overseeing the planning and execution of improvements to our publication databases.
- Coordinating the digitization and cataloguing of ICES historical archive and in-house literature collection.
- Providing training and support to internal and external library users in accessing, navigating, and publishing content on the digital library platform, and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Tracking and analysing publications metrics, providing reports for internal and external use, and collaborating in bibliometric studies on past and current patterns in ICES science and publishing.
- Upholding publication best practices, maintaining metadata standards and compatibility with other systems, and maintaining and developing ICES publication templates.
- Conducting ad hoc publications tasks as needed, as assigned by ICES Lead Editor or Communications and Publications Team Lead.
Qualifications and experience
Our ideal Digital Librarian is someone who can work both independently and in close collaboration with colleagues and external partners. Further requirements for this position include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in library and information science, publishing, communications, or related field.
- Relevant professional experience with digital library platforms or repositories and publishing.
- Knowledge of research data management, open access publishing principles, metadata standards, and best practices around DOI and other permanent identifiers.
- Demonstrable experience with the Microsoft Suite, using APIs, and data processing and visualization tools such as PowerBI. Programming skills in R or Python is a plus.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to train and support diverse user groups.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to simultaneously balance between long-term projects, repetitive tasks, and short-term objectives with tight deadlines.
- Experience with developing macro templates and macro-enabled documents is a plus.
