Job description

 

The Civil Peace Service (CPS) is a programme for the prevention of violence and peacebuilding in crisis and conflict regions. In Cameroon, CPS contributes to nonviolent conflict transformation, violence prevention, and strengthening social cohesion. CPS supports civil society partners in their collective goal-oriented commitment to non-violent conflict transformation, the improvement of social relations through dialogue, and the practice of democratic participation of young people. Measures of psychosocial support to enable people to deal with psychosocial consequences of violence and polarisation are additionally developed with partners and their target groups. As a CPS advisor for conflict-sensitive peacebuilding in Buea, you will be based in the partner organisation CHRDA (part-time) and in a shared GIZ office (part-time). You will be in charge of supporting CHRDA in the development of technical and methodological approaches to peacebuilding, and of deepening the analysis of context, conflicts, actors and potentials for peace for future strategic CPS program design in the South-West Region.

 

Your tasks

 

  • Conduct in-depth contextual and conflict analysis to better understand conflict factors and local potentials for peace in the specific context of the South-West Region
  • Design with CHRDA conflict-sensitive approaches for training youth as peacebuilders, and support them in their initiatives, for strengthening social cohesion between young people from different communities
  • Create alliances with key stakeholders in the peacebuilding sector and develop a new partnership with a potential partner organization
  • Assist CHRDA in the development of advocacy approaches to enable young people’s voices to be heard by local and traditional authorities in peaceful conflict transformation processes
  • Assist CHRDA in peacebuilding project development and fund raising
  • Contribute to the monitoring of outcomes’ achievement together with partner organisation(s) and the CPS team fostering reflection on improvement of approaches and methodological tools
  • Support the integration of conflict sensitivity, human rights-based approach and a gender perspective in all project’s measures
  • Documentation of learning experiences and good practices for proactive commitment in knowledge management among the CPS team, the CPS partners’ network in Cameroon, CPS of GIZ, the CPS consortium and the GIZ NICD network

 

Your profile

 

  • Master’s degree in social or political sciences, peace and conflict studies, or any other relevant domain
  • Several years of expertise and practical experience in the areas of peacebuilding and local conflict transformation
  • Proven skills in context and conflict analysis and in designing conflict sensitive peacebuilding approaches and strategies
  • Professional experience in fragile contexts and work experience in Africa; knowledge about Cameroon is an added value
  • Partner oriented work skills and strong reflective advisory competencies
  • Patience and autonomy are needed
  • Proven ability to work in a multicultural team and sensitivity to questions as racism and colonial legacies
  • Business fluent in English and French

The security situation is tense. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country. GIZ staff must adhere to security measures at all times. Please also check the county-specific information provided by the German Federal Foreign Office. GIZ runs a professional security risk management system in the field of deployment. The freedom of movement is restricted. It is not possible for life partners and family members to move with you to the country of deployment. Short-term lockdowns may occur, making relocation necessary in other cities, like Douala or Yaounde.
