JOB PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Provide substantial value to WFP’s and The Gambia CO’s effective positioning with public, private and external partners to attract policy support, resources, technical assistance and innovative solutions to advance the work of WFP, while supporting member states in the achievement of the SDGs and Zero Hunger and emphasizing WFP’s contributions in this regard.

To support all Operational Information Management and Performance Reporting (OIM & PR) activities and contribute to the establishment and presentation of standard and consistent operating picture of WFP operations and associated results that facilitate informed and timely decision-making at all levels throughout the organisation.

Provide support in the establishment of risk management activities in The Gambia CO; contribute to the application of controls and compliance with policies and procedures and to the overall effectiveness of operations and optimization of WFP resource.

Contribute to the coordination of WFP programmes and activities in the Gambia CO to ensure appropriate follow-up on issues and priorities, effective decision-making, and continued implementation of critical actions.

Coordination

  • Identify sources of information related to coordination. Identify and synthesise best practices and lessons learnt directly linked to WFP’s mandate and country policy goals.
  • Coordinate internal relations and information sharing to facilitate consistent messaging.
  • Contribute to the preparation of high-quality documents summarizing the developments in WFP’s areas of cooperation.
  • Contribute to the arrangement of regular forums and events on issues related to CO activities.
  • Prepare and draft updates relevant to the CD’s Work Plan and reports.
  • Contribute to embedding risk management in planning and decision-making across the office and all aspects of WFP operations through monitoring of key risk appetite metrics and risk indicators, and regular updating of risk registers, including progress towards implementing the risk mitigation actions.
  • Other as required.

Partnerships

  • Enable WFP to identify, develop and strengthen quality partnerships in support of WFP strategic objectives and support alignment of partner engagement across the organization.
  • Proactively contribute to a partnerships portfolio, including partner profiling, data/trends analysis and outreach activities, with the aim to maximize resources and leverage policy and technical support for WFP’s work; Ensure partner visibility and that partner conditions are met.
  • Gather and share intelligence (including forecasting), using key information systems (e.g. Salesforce, WINGS, WFPGo).
  • Solicit inputs from other functional entities, RBs and COs on WFP’s programmatic offering that can gain traction with individual partner audiences, Conduct analysis and draft quality briefs in support of outreach opportunities.
  • Gather socio-political insights to support WFP’s effective positioning vis-à-vis national governments, regional and international institutions with the aim to influence the policy agenda.
  • Facilitate corporate dialogue with partners through preparation of quality briefing materials; Proactively highlight strategic opportunities and issues to senior management and propose options for the best course of action to nurture trust and interest in the work of WFP; Support the preparation of joint events (e.g. UN pledging conferences) that can advance WFP interests and objectives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of partnership proposals, strategic agreements, joint strategies and/or MOU, taking into account corporate norms, processes and external regulations; Ensure quality control of content by engaging with relevant functional units, RBs and COs.
  • Facilitate corporate dialogue with partners through networking and information sharing; Proactively highlight strategic issues to senior managers and propose options for the best course of action to nurture trust and partnership growth.

Operational Information Management & Performance Reporting

  • Ensure that standard OIM & PR procedures and templates are followed to drive the quality, consistency and standardisation of information management and performance reporting across WFP.
  • Collate and assist in the dissemination of political and humanitarian analysis pertaining to WFP current or future responses and donor policies, trends and preferences to ensure country specific input to WFP’s operational reporting.
  • Support the preparation of Annual Country Report (ACR) for the Annual Reporting Exercise in collaboration with the country office programme, monitoring & evaluation, logistics and resource management functions by coordinating to ensure coherence and quality of performance information.
  • Collaborate with counterparts internally and with other UN agencies to ensure consistency in humanitarian information and to complement WFP analysis and information.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: Advanced University degree in Political Science, International Development, Development Economics, International Relations, Law, Marketing, or another relevant field.

Experience:

1-2 years of work experience with The World Food Programme, a Non-Government Organization, or other non-profit organization.

Languages:

International Professional: Fluency (level C) in English language. Intermediate knowledge (level B) of a second official UN language: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, and/or Portuguese (a WFP working language).
