JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
The Department of Operational Support (DOS) was established to provide end-to-end operational support, advisory services and other solutions to operating entities across the Secretariat, including departments, offices away from headquarters, peace operations, and regional commissions. Under the strategic guidance of the Department of Operational Support (DOS), the Kuwait Joint Support Office provides efficient and client-oriented services with the goal of moving transactional, non-location dependent administrative functions from its client entities. These include transactional elements of human resources, finance, travel and payroll. This position is located in the Kuwait Joint Support Office (KJSO). The Data Analysis Assistant, Business Intelligence and Client Support, will report directly to the Administrative Officer (Unit Head – Business Intelligence and Client Support) and will support in the overall management of the Service Center in the areas of: Business Intelligence & Client Support, Performance monitoring, iNeed tracking, Training and Communications. The incumbent will serve as the principal advisor on all matters pertaining to the administration and delivery of services to all components of the Service Center including but not limited to a client services, operational, performance management and project management matters.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, Data Analysis Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Provides full range of data analysis assistance at all phases of a data analysis initiative, typically a large and highly complex component of the departmental data analysis initiatives, seeking guidance in exceptional circumstances. • Serves as a focal point for coordination, monitoring and expedition of data analysis activity, involving liaison with diverse parts of the organization to request data and to communicate data needs to other parts of the organization. Follows-up on requests made by other team members and coordinates activities. • Maintains specific information products in their area and assists more senior staff in providing information products to others. • Assists in drafting correspondence and communications related to all aspects of data analysis, including information on available data sets, data catalogs and data analysis, revisions and other related issues, as well as preparing unit contributions for a variety of periodic reports. • Assists with the provision of advice on how data can be utilized to improve decision making within the knowledge domain. • Assist with search for approaches and methods that will lead to innovative data products. • Assists with preparation of data products related to data analysis activities; drafts inputs for a wide range of documents/reports, briefings/debriefings, correspondence, etc. • Provides guidance and training to new/junior staff. • Supervises General Service staff or other field service in the function. • Documenting requirements, background information and methodology used for data analysis. • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent, is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
A technical or vocational certificate or successful completion of online or classroom trainings in Data Analysis, Data Science or related learning credential is desirable. A certificate in project management methodology such as Prince2, PMP or lean methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban is desirable.
Work Experience
At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics or related area, is required. At least three (3) years of experience with self-service analytics and data visualization applications (MS PowerBI, Qlik, Tableau or similar), or business intelligence tools (SAP Business Objects, etc.) is required. At least two (2) years of experience in Advanced Excel and PowerPoint or other analytical and reporting tools is desirable. Experience in the above fields within a shared service center, back-office or business process outsourcing environment is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another UN official language is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
