JOB DESCRIPTION

Result of Service
The Consultant will act under the direct supervision of the CTCN Director. Objective 1: Review Climate Technology Network membership and support the strategic engagement of partners Outputs: • Process Network membership applications and improve a database of Network expertise • Lead the organization and preparation of the Network engagement strategy, and implement Network engagement activities as outlined in the CTCN annual operating plan • Develop and foster new partnerships between the CTCN and other stakeholders (universities, private sector, donors etc.) • Prepare report inputs, presentation slides, and visualizations on Network activities and indicators at the request of the CTCN Director Objective 2: Conduct thematic capacity-building activities to strengthen the capacities of stakeholders Outputs: • Provide support to the conceptualization of CTCN thematic capacity-building activities (webinars, workshops), in particular in energy systems, including the implementation of the same • Prepare report inputs, presentation slides, and visualizations on online meetings and capacity-building activities and indicators at the request of the CTCN Director Objective 3: Support the CTCN’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities Outputs: • Analyze the current M&E system vis a vis the CTCN’s new Programme of Work (2023-2025) and support the development of updated guidance and indicators • Regularly monitor the M&E data collection process, propose any corrective actions, and communicate any reporting gaps to the CTCN Director and relevant teams for action • Coordinate with regional teams in regular review of project status, evaluating performance criteria, and selection of indicators • Conduct field visits to project sites as needed to monitor progress and impact • Prepare report inputs, presentation slides, and visualizations on M&E indicators at the request of the CTCN Director

Duties and Responsibilities
The Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) is hosted by the UN Environment Programme and is considered to be part of the UN Framework Commission on Climate Change Technology Mechanism. The mission of the CTCN is to stimulate technology cooperation and to enhance the development and transfer of climate technologies to developing countries. The CTCN assists developing country Parties at their request, building, or strengthening their capacity to prepare and implement climate technology projects that span the technology transfer continuum. The CTCN supports public and private sector action on mitigation and adaptation, enhancing low-carbon and climate-resilient development in a manner consistent with the capabilities and priorities of recipient countries. Among its key services, the Centre provides tailored technology solutions, capacity building and networking opportunities. A consultant is sought to support stakeholder engagement, including online meetings and capacity building activities. The CTCN also conducts monitoring and evaluation of its work to inform its stakeholders of the outputs and outcomes of its services. As such, assistance is required to regularly review the M&E system and report on its findings. The result of the consultant’s services will be the support for an active and engaged Network, a vibrant and well-functioning online capacity building program, and a well-functioning monitoring and evaluation system. The selected consultant shall carry out the following activities: • Review Climate Technology Network membership and support the strategic engagement of partners • Conduct thematic capacity-building activities to strengthen capacities of stakeholders • Support the CTCN’s monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities Collaborate with a cross-organizational, multi-country team, to share information, plan and implement the above activities
Qualifications/special skills
Education Advanced university degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in environmental studies/law, engineering, international development, sustainable development, or other relevant field. Work Experience • Minimum 3 years’ experience related to environmental, climate change, technology or sustainability knowledge work and/or content writing • Experience/Familiarity with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and its bodies • Experience in developing country climate change needs • Experience in reporting on organizational or program impacts considered an asset • Experience working in an international organization will be considered an asset
Languages
Strong communication and writing skills in English are required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
